I'm a new member. Not a Leica buff, although 25 years ago I had a Leica IIIc with red scale Elmar just for fun. So the interest (and a little hands on knowledge) always has been there. Currently I like my cameras and lenses as old as possible, so I got this converted IA to II (which needs new curtains because of two sunburn holes) from 1929 (as per the Leica archive which I emailed), serial number 23983. Interestingly everything still works very smooth and well, so the holes in the curtains are a bummer (but not a showstopper)l Maybe it was serviced not long ago, but was neglected after that? The previous owner only had it for 2 years but he knew nothing about former owner(s).

The II came with a "wrong" lens (Summitar, 1949) so this weekend I won a converted 50mm f/3.5 Elmar without serial number and no infinity lock. I think this would pair well and is definitely period correct. Unfortunately it has its fair share of problems too (damaged front ring, haze). But nothing that cannot be solved I think,

I look forward to have this serviced and use it regularly!

Wish list:
- Black Leica Standard body.
- Original lens cap and hood (black FISON?) for the Elmar
- Original leather case

My inherited IIIg… had it CLA’d in Wetzlar with some difficulties… sent in 4/2023, got it in 2/2024, film advance didn’t work, they repaired it, it still didn’t work, went back to Wetzlar again, worked for 2 films before the speed selector got out of function. Was repaired in Wetzlar on December 27th… seems to work now. Fingers crossed 🤞 !

I love using it.  Smaller than the M, and great results with the Collapsible Summicron !

I love my IIIa.

I know modern(?) film cameras are easier to use but there's just something about "Barnacks". While they are comparatively harder to use I recently thought of a modified IIIa configuration that will make it 3x harder, but if I can pull it off the photographic results could be very interesting. I need to acquire some extra equipment first. We shall see. 🤔

At least I won't be trying actual tintype.

Since that statement (wish) I obtained 5 more Leicas, among which this one. Delivered to CAPI Nijmegen (The Netherlands) on the 28th of february, 1933. Almost everything is marked CAPI including the camera.

My IIIg (still / again) being in Wetzlar, I mounted the Summicron 50 collapsible on an older Leica III… a bit anachronic, as the body is from the 30’s and the Lens from the end of the 50’s. But nice to use. Impatient to see the results !

Great combination. I love anachronic set ups. See my 1939 IIId with 2000 Summilux.
