Guy, Leica has no problems with the "less gear"-idea. I offered a travel photography-workshop in cooperation with them last year.

The only thing you have to do, is telling people that they need the lenses they do not own :D

Reduce your gear, open your eyes!

For me it is the WATE 28, 50, 75 and 90 and now i like the 135mm. Not very good at keeping lens count down

LOL - I was only joining in with the theory, in real life:

2 bodies:

1 with WATE

1 with MATE

in bag:

21 pre asph

35 cron

50 lux

75 cron . . . . and unless I'm very disciplined the 90 2.8 seems to slip in as well.

Some of them get left in the hotel room some of the time, but not much gets left at home.

I used to carry two nikon bodies and 4 big fast zooms - this is NOTHING in comparison!

:)

Well, I'm probably not the one to ask, since I have been known to carry two SLR bodies and four or five lenses... In M gear, I take 2 bodies, 15, 21, 28, 50(lux) and 90(cron), all of which fit easily in my Domke 803. The 50 and 28 are kept on bodies and used for about 80% of all my shots, others swapped on as necessary. (And yes, if pressed, I could travel with just the 28 on a single M8 body.)

However, that said, out of your list I would go with the 28/50/90. And if you're so inclined, I would add the inexpensive Voigtlander 21 for wide views and interiors. IF the weight is too much, then get a 90 Elmarit or tele-Elmarit instead, but frankly we're talking less difference than the weight of a half-bottle of water...

Cheers,

Man, who cares???? I can fit only one lens at a time to my body. It's just I don't think there are artists who can do a painting with just one brush...

Victor I have no need whatsoever to show of what gear i have , i could care what people think. These make me money and there just a means to a end on a daily basis , if i collected lenses than i would have about 200 right now. If it does not get used it gets lost very quickly around here. Why is that someone has a bag full of gear that he is showing off. i think that is a total BS comment . People like to have different lenses in all focal lengths , good for them. Now because we have many lenses that makes us less of a artist, were does that one come from. Victor please go have a cup of coffee and wake up. Real men what is that line. I went M8 because i can save some weight and space and get rid of 2 roller bags full of junk

Scrambles over piles of junk to find actual bag . . . . small Hadley:

contents:

1 black body with MATE

1 frankenfinder

1 WATE

1 75 'cron.

but then, I'm going to take the dog for a walk, I'm not travelling until next week - when I'm off to Crete for a fortnight, I guess I won't often walk out with more than that, but I'll certainly take more with me (a second body and faster lenses for the evening for a start).

On a serious trip i would take two lenses: a wide-angle and a normal lens.....

21 (or 15) + 35. (I normaly carry just one: carefully choosen before leaving home)

In my experience less is more when it comes to bringing lenses in the field ........ less lenses liberate the mind .............. well in my case it does .... !

HCB ... almost solely used a 50mm

Winogrand ..... 28mm

Sieff ... 21mm

Koudelka .. 25mm for Gypsies ..... 35mm otherwise

Helmuth Newman ...... normal lens mostly

Alec Soth ....... normal lens mostly

and the list goes on and on and on.......... they probably all own(ed) a sack of lenses ... but their signature work is/was with one lens ..... food for thought;)

Well, one body wears the Summicron 35 asph 80% of the time, the other 50-50 between ZI 2/2.8 and 90 AA. The rest is taken out as needed. And when I feel like going about light - 28 2.8 asph and 2.8/50 collapsible. And always-always- a battery and SD card in my pocket.

2 lens travel kit for the M8: 28mm Summicron and 75mm Summicron.

Since you already have the WATE, I would go with the 35mm Summilux and 75mm Summicron. On a trip, I have always found that I use a high speed moderate wide angle most often (28mm or 35mm) when shooting film. I wish that Leica or somebody produce a 24mm f2 lens. That would be my dream lens on the M8. ;)

I guess were all just photojournalist than. I don't want to shoot like any of them or emulate any of there work, there are other shooters out there doing other things. This board absolutely does not understand any of the different work going on in the world. Open any magazine and find out. There is no such thing as a Leica style. It's a sensor with a lens in a box period. There is the main course

Top travel lens? The WATE! Without a doubt. Accompagnied by the ME 90 mm, and for size a CV35/2.5.

Here a WATE pano, from 11 upright 16mm (UV/IR) Lightroom Tifs, worked through DXO Pro4: wonderful package. The Pano program is PTGui, of course.

And Leica lenses can do without a polarizer!

The village of Praiyawang, in Rende district, East Sumba, still has a rajah. The village tombs stand in the middle. The cost of a funeral, including raising the tomb may be delayed for years, untill enough wealth has been gathered to cater for all the hundreds of people needed to tow the main tombstone to the village and raise the tomb. Sumba people indeed believe you can take it with you! The high roofs house the family spirits.

More of this coming! From Kodi district in West Sumba, where the rocket roofs soar to 15 meters!
