I replaced mine with the Match Technical rubber cap with a tether which attaches to the camera body so the cap does not get lost as easily. Also the rubber cap does not even try to fall off. I am very satisfied with this cap. Try it, you will like it. A great improvement over the supplied lens cap.

Thank-you..I will follow up on your suggestion.

Lens caps are utterly useless - leave them in the box for resale. They always get lost otherwise. Use a protective filter and/or lens hood. That way your camera will always be ready to shoot.

I use a protective filter and the hood – lens cap stays in the box until the day I sell it. However, sometimes I use the camera without the hood, and for those times I use a 49mm pinch-cap – but only for storing the camera in the bag (since any lint on the sides of the camera bag walls too easily transfers to the lens/filter versus using the hood, which does not allow them to touch).

I use the Q-cap when storing the camera in the bag and take it off when carrying the camera to take pictures. It’s good quality aluminium and fits snugly into the end of the Q2 lens shade. If I’m out with the camera and no bag, I’ll stuff the Q-cap in my pocket in case I need to use it (eg if the rain is horizontal thanks to the wind and is blowing onto the lens)

This. The same for me.

I got one for my Q2M and TOTALLY agree...I even took off the tether since it's close to impossible for it to fall off.  Plus, for the Q2M, it gives another level of anonymity, as it does not have the Leica name on the cap.

I am waiting for my Leica Q2 to arrive in the next couple of weeks.  Some reviews suggest that the slip-on metal cap has a tendency to fall off when carrying.  Is that a problem and what is the recommended remedy.

It does have a tendency to fall off. I bought a back-up since I don't like the designs of any of the third-party ones I've seen.

I put clear or UV lens filters on all my lenses. I then use the the lens cap to cover the filter when they are being stored. Lens caps are never used out of the house. One camera, one lens in a bag and I’m out for a day of shooting. My Q2M gets the same treatment. The annoying, easily lost lens cap waits patiently at home.

The lens cap that came with my Q2 was never tight and fell off all the time. I reached out to Leica support and they shipped me a replacement that fits snuggly and does not fall off. I would advise contacting support. I believe there was a batch of these that do not fit properly.

@luetz  As someone else said, the Match Technical Q2 lens cap ( https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1504719-REG/match_technical_mt_lc_sr_01_lens_cap_for_leica.html ) is the best option.  I resisted getting one for a couple of months after my Q2 arrived due to the cost, but in the end I surrendered and bought one and I'm glad I did.

Another option is the Sensei 49mm screw on metal lens cap, ( https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/806922-REG/Sensei_lcm49_49mm_Screw_In_Metal_Lens.html ).  This is a viable alternative, but it does require removing the lens hood and replacing it every time you want to make photographs.

Another option would be to put a high quality clear protector filter (B+W) on the lens and go without a lens cap.

Same. I have thanked myself everyday for doing that. That slip on cover will eventually fall of and get lost.
