I’m a fairly new owner to the M10-R. I felt that I’ve been pretty successful up to this point but now I’m having an issue with a flashing blue screen after I take photographs.
The live view has been turned on and you can clearly see the image but once I click the shutter the screen starts flashing blue. When the play button is pressed to review what was just photographed, it also pops up as a blue screen. I have photographed the live you as well as the flashing blue screen if this helps.

on a final note, I have tried several different lenses, changed out the SD card and even taking the battery out and putting it back in the camera

thanks

I haven't encountered this with my M10-R.  Out of curiosity, in the menu, under Capture Assistants, do you have Exposure Clipping set on?   When you download the image to your computer, do you get the photographed image or a file with just blue in it?

Flashing blue is the indicator for underexposure, if Exposure Clipping has been turned on as John explains above. The limit is settable, but even if it had been turned to its maximum value (20), at least some parts of that image should be visible. Also the histogram seems empty.

If it weren't for the live view image I would have suggested that the image had been taken with the lens cap on. Did you try different aperture settings? Does the image show up correctly in auto review, if you have it turned on? Does it sound like the shutter is making an exposure when you press the shutter release? Is the result the same with live view turned off?

I would also suggest a factory reset.

Update, I have tried all of your comments and have downloaded images from the card, unfortunately all the images that had a blue flashing screen are all black on the computer. When I started the session the images all looked great, then it gradually started with the blue screen and alternation between photos and a black images.

I repeated the steps with multiple lenses, tried a different card and even reset the camera back to factory setting.
I even tried updating the firmware and am finding it does not want to update, Maybe because it was updated a couple of months ago and currently uses the most recent firmware

I think this behavior is not a question of the camera settings.
If you can return the camera: return it
I
f you have a guarantee on the camera: have it repaired
Otherwise send it to Leica Customer Service for repair. Takes a little longer, but is safest.
Greetings Georg

Discussed it this afternoon with the dealer. The camera is only four months old so it is covered by a warranty. It looks like I may not see it for a while.

the shutter is definitely working but the sensor is not, the images are all black, no signs of light anywhere in the shot.

That happens to me when I forget to remove the lens cap 😫

But sorry, that is probably not your problem. It just came into my mind.

Wasn’t a lens cap issue, by this time I had already been snapping away for at leas 30 to 45 minutes.

thank you for taking time to respond.

one final point to consider.    Check the ISO switch on the top plate.  Is it set to M?   If so, is your menu setting set to a very high value like 32000.  That would cause every shot to be vastly overexposed..  Your ISO selector switch should be on an interim value.-say 400).   In fact, your ISO selector switch may be faulty.  That was an early known fault on the M10.

The black images were to be expected, because flashing blue is an indication of severe underexposure. I agree that there is a fault with your camera and that it will need a repair. It would be interesting to know what the problem was once you have got it back.

I will follow up on this post once I hear back from Leica

Check the images of his camera that are already posted at the top of this page.

The rear LCD "INFO" is switched on, and clearly indicates "ISO 200" is in use.

To L_G_D:

Both your clipping indicator (the completely blue flashing screen) and the histogram (empty box top left in the image area on you LCD) correctly show that only a black image was recorded. So those indicators seem to working as intended. You  just really are not getting any image recorded except black.

The fact you can see the image on the LCD before taking the picture means that both the shutter and the sensor are functioning to some extent (or things would be all black from the get-go) - but something fails to operate correctly during the actual exposure. That could be almost anywhere in the imaging chain between the shutter and the SD card. Or it could be a sequencing or syncing error between the shutter and the sensor (which likely means a fault in the CPU or its programming(firmware)).

I think this is one Leica will have to figure out.

I'm sorry you have to deal with it.

Sent it back to the Dealer to see if it may be ‘user error’ but they quickly realized it was the camera and shipped it back for repair or replacement.

it’s a bummer since I may be without the camera for much of the summer.
I still have a Q2 or can live on the edge and shoot film.

M10-R update. Hi All, I received an email today from Leica informing me they I have the problem but the part is out of stock. Not good for a camera that is only 3 months ago.
They did not elaborate rightThey did not elaborate on the problem.

a bit of their email:

‘During the repair of your Leica product, the technician found that a
part required to fully repair your equipment to Leica standards is
currently out of stock.

Our colleagues and worldwide suppliers are working together to resolve
this issue as quickly as possible. However, this will most likely delay
the completion of the repair.

We apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your
patience.  If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to contact Customer Care’

Update:

Rather than waiting weeks for a part replacement for the M10-R, Dan Tamarkin of Tamarkin Camera was able to convince Leica to send a new camera instead of making me wait weeks for a repair of a camera that I just purchased in April.

If you have not done business with Dan or any of the staff at Tamarkin Camera, I highly recommend them, they are the best! They have a customer for life!

Good outcome (and hopefully the replacement is problem free). I wouldn’t expect less from any of the best dealers.  Some might instead  provide a free loaner camera during repair.
