grahamc Posted June 19, 2021 Author Share #41  Posted June 19, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks guys.  I think the T-E is going to win out here .  @a.noctiluxI'm steering away from LTM as I think this will be the last lens I need to purchase in some time (famous last words), I know the adapters aren't a big deal but I'm going to keep everything tidy, small and low-maintenance I think.  So again a point for the T-E 'thin' on form factor over the Old Elmarit-M (which I hear is excellent). Really appreciate all the info from everybody - I understand the options in this FL a lot better now and almost at a purchasing decision.  Could still come down to a coin-toss on the day between the T-E thin and Rokkor but overall it doesn't sound like that's a bad thing at all and I'll get on well with either Edited June 19, 2021 by grahamc spelling
Advertisement Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 Hi grahamc, Take a look here 90mm Recommendation (pair with 50mm Summicron V3 / 35mm Summicron V4). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted June 19, 2021 Share #42  Posted June 19, 2021 If you are serious about using Leica M, Graham, you would not say "last lens" 😉. We are lucky to have thousands of lenses out there to try and use ( some Leitz made in 1930's ! even some older lenses can be used !! ).
pgk Posted June 19, 2021 Share #43 Â Posted June 19, 2021 I currently own the 'thin' Tele-Elmarit(11800), the Elmarit-M (11807) and the Summarit (11646). All produce excellent results. Of the three the 'thin' is most prone to flare and you need to check that the rear glass is not fogged because this is a known problem and can be difficult to get sorted out. That said if you get one which is clear then its a lovely little lightweght lens. The Elmarit-M is a highly competent performer too as is the Summarit. Personally I would say that any of these or indeed the other 'short, fat' or leather encircled earlier lenses are as good a match with your other lenses as I would want. I personally would look for any of them in excellent optical and mechanical condition. Out of them all the Summarit (f/2.5) currently represents very good value for money as it can be bough very reasonably indeed for such a recent lens, and the others will not cost vastly less (or maybe the same or more) for far older lenses.

Cheers ! Hi, the T-E and the Summicron v4 were my starter kit for my M6 in 1988. - Historically, it might be nice to have lenses from the same period, but optically differences would be quite difficult to demonstrate validly. Currently, I use the T-E more than the Elmarit-M because I am active in the thread "The view through older glass". Being a one-lens-at-a-time-person, I do not have side by side comparisons of the same subjects. Maybe, I should go out tomorrow with the Elmarit-M. A few from the T-E on the M9. (I do not know how it renders on the M262, the M9 having a CCD sensor.):  Welcome, dear visitor! Danner Posted June 19, 2021 Share #47  Posted June 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also use the thin Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 and the 12575 hood (when needed). Hood reverses on the t-T-E well, so it stores compactly. I generally don't shoot with the hood in place, just when needed. I find this an excellent combination with my v5 50 'cron and C-Biogon 35/2.8. grahamc Posted June 21, 2021 Author Share #52  Posted June 21, 2021 Thanks a lot @crony.  it's great to see these 2 side by side as they are my final choices. Very kind of you . Beautiful cars too .  Do you tend to notice a more modern rendering from the Elmarit-M (in general I mean, not just the resistance to flare) ?  If so it's not really obvious from these shots.. IMO the only photograph where the T-E is producing a more 'classical' rendering is in the chrome Mercedes badge (taken through windscreen). The rest look like they render very similar . Cheers again G
