thedwp Posted June 2, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m in the US. Considering a purchase of a 28mm summilux. The seller originally purchased from rangefinder dot com/hk . Would that be considered grey market? Does that mean no warranty? What does that do to resale value? has anyone has had any issues with this type of purchase? thanks.

Gregm61 Posted June 2, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2021 (edited) Is it even anything more than buying used? You definitely won’t have any warranty coverage through Leica USA, and they (Leica NJ) may not choose to service it if you needed anything done. I would guess it all comes down to price/how much are you saving to buy from that seller. The product should be the same. Unless I was saving alot of money I’d probably not go there. Any relatively new Leica product being sold as second-hand without the box and/or any of the original packaging, in your case warranty card, will take a hit on the second-hand market. How much will depend on the item and what you’d be willing to accept. Edited June 2, 2021 by Gregm61
jdlaing Posted June 2, 2021 Share #3 Posted June 2, 2021 Leica Germany will warrant the lens during the applicable period.

Only issue i've got is Leica asking me for a proof of purchase to the original dealer. I don't live in the USA though. The lens will be covered by the Leica warranty normally but will be serviced by Leica Germany only.
RayD28 Posted June 3, 2021 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2021 I didn't know a gray market existed for Leica.
MarkP Posted June 3, 2021 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2021 Rangefinder HK told me they sell grey market ( or what is called parallel import) Leica, but with the normal international Leica warranty. I specifically asked our local authorised Leica local centre who honour the international Leica warranty.
