Let's hope so - it is the camera's main drawback - but I am not holding my breath.

It was driving me mad as well, until I switched it off as follows:

Main Menu > Page 1> Focusing > Touch AF set to Off.

The 4-way controller can be disabled by locking the controls.

Long press the button inside the left thumbwheel until the "closed lock" icon appears on the screen.

As we’ve discussed many times here before, make the default for the focus point “locked” with the option available in the menu or shortcut to make it mobile. Leica have had 4 years to fix this, but clearly it’s not important enough for them to bother with.
