pgk Posted April 29, 2021 Share #61  Posted April 29, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) My baseplate sticker is still in place (the new one that Leica put back that is) and I've protected it with a Kirk Arca plate thingy🙂. Must get around to cleaning it - photographs so show up the dust. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Hi pgk, Take a look here Do You Peel the Protective Film?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Dennis Posted April 29, 2021 Share #62  Posted April 29, 2021 I removed the protective film on my M10 bottom plate a few weeks ago. It started to peeling out after two years, and I recently finished the job. Now it's smoother and less annoying. Scratches? Maybe, Who cares. The cameras are for use, and my custom M10 know it. I'm not very good at that sort of thing. Filters are useful because I tend to clean them with whatever I'm wearing if they need to be cleaned. They are disposable eventually (though surprisingly robust these days). Cameras get used and always seem to attract dust in the less accessible nooks and crannies.  FWIW if anyone realy want protection then there are products like this: https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/p/dc/v000137254/

So I'll confess: I'm generally a protective plastic remover but I've never taken it off a Leica baseplate. Maybe I'll challenge myself and take them all off this weekend. Or maybe not Not. Couldn't do it 😪
south64 Posted August 29, 2021 Share #70  Posted August 29, 2021 I propose: Leica to exchange the environmental questionable plastic protective sticker with a hand crafted full brass 5 mm thick metal protector, also available as an aftermarket item for let's say € 899 or $ 1099 or £ 969 ... Ps my sticker is still on
Stephen.s1 Posted August 29, 2021 Share #71  Posted August 29, 2021 The weight loss from ugly bottom protector and associated warning label removal was worth the effort. Rubbing alcohol does a good job. Not to mention the micro high one gets while doing the job.
