...Once I get the proper alcohol, I'll start to take the paint off some ISO and SS numbers, oh yeah! I can't wait....

IMX a few pints of Krug is usually sufficient to get me in the mood to do interesting stuff so I'd say hang the expense and Go For It!

Once done, I'll post a snapshot of my own limited edition M10, of course. I really believe personal but proper customization of your camera can help you take better photos. I know I'm faster with my own camera that a brand new one. I use all manual settings, even WB. Faster for me is a better chance to catch a moment or just do it better. Resulting in a more pleasant story to be told. Everything is connected!

Sorry for the off topic 🙏

No one has mentioned that once you buy a new lens It's lost roughly 20% (if you're lucky) of it's retail price.  See what a dealer will offer you for your "investment".

You just have to wait for a couple of the inevitable Leica price increases and you'll cover the 20% loss in no time 😉

I bought a vintage guitar that's turned into a "good" investment.  By good I mean its value has increased a fraction of the amount I could have realized if I put the money in stock market index fund, but it has increased.  Collectibles as part of an estate plan is for the very wealthy.  A $5,000 investment in collector grade equipment today would have to equal about $6,000 in five years at 4%.  Might happen but I doubt it.

I consider this expensive photography hobby as a breakeven proposition.  Even if make some trades and loose a few hundred dollars its not the end of the world.

On the other hand I'd like an M10-P or R but thinking about trading my M-P and getting 1/3rd of the price I paid pains me since it't still fully functional and as reliable as the day I bought it new.

Indeed the last time i sold a Leica lens i was still a student :D

In the 40+ years I've been using M-Leicas I've never once sold a lens but, as chance would have it, I am actually considering to do such a thing now. I find myself with a pair of 90mm lenses only one of which ever gets used. My reasoning is that I could sell both of my existing lenses and replace them with what is (in some attractive respects) a 'better performing' lens. As both lenses were bought for good prices I'd even come out on top financially.

The theory seems sound.......

That’s me, Logan. Day late and a dollar short.  In this case a week late.

In your defense, Tamarkin sent out their email way late.  I just received it yesterday too 🙂

Even though I currently do not plan selling my Leica equipment, maybe I should periodically take a look at current prices of my gear. Should for instance my Summilux serial number turn out to be one of a 2 Million € super super rare super limited edition  - I would not hesitate replacing the lens with a „normal“ Summilux...😀😀🤑

I bet your Summilux with it's unique serial number is therefore unique (...only one of it's kind ! ) 😉

...as all other Leica lens

minus some "*" (duplicate serial number),

see here for *

Leica is a luxury product. Like all such products it carries a 20-30% price premium when new.

Buy it second hand (1-2 years old) and you will save this premium.

Then use it and keep it well. When you sell it, you will at least recover what you paid for,  with a minimal loss. Sometimes, you might even make a profit, as the price of a similar new product moves up in price. Just keep checking on resale and new prices to make judgement calls.

This is true for all mechanical products like lenses. For electronics products like cameras, there will be a point at which the item may have parts that cannot be replaced.
