Lovely. Your area is just slightly ahead of ours. I expect to start seeing the magnolias in about two weeks.

Thank you !   I have no idea, where "Here" is, but it seems to be in the colder parts of the USA.  This image was taken in Trier, Germany, the oldest city of Germany. It was founded by the Romans more than 2000 years ago. The Romans governed the western part of their empire from "Augusta Treverorum", as they called it. Here the climate is pleasant and  the wine grapes grow under best conditions and create the famous Mosel Wine.

I believe I inherited my interest in photography from my father. Whenever our family traveled he constantly pulled out thiis camera to record our trips, generally on Kodachrome. When I was starting my third year as a journalism major I needed a camera for the photojournalism course I was enrolled in so my dad gave me this one--my first rangefinder. It was so difficult to use that after struggling with it for about two weeks I went out and bought a 35mm SLR. I still have the Argus camera but it doesn't work anymore.

Argus C-3.. When I was just  getting interested in photography (1943) I would have sold my left arm for this.

Thanks for the memory

Ha! Yes, sorry about not divulging my location. I'm at 43.0731°N, 89.4012°W. We also have good a climate for wine grapes but not quite as good as yours. I should point out that my area (Madison, Wisconsin) was settled by a good number of your countrymen.

A shop window display where used albums and CDs are sold. I shot this for a comparison between f/1.2 and f/16 (focused on Louis).

One of my friends owns the architectural firm that designed and built this restaurant/bar, so yesterday after a round of golf we stopped for snacks and beers and I shot a few frames (all wide open).

I am really having difficulty finding the focal point in these photos ... and I can't see a tulip, however hard I search. I can see blurry snowdrops and a blurry daffodil. Where is the tulip? Sorry to spoil the party but the emperor's clothes are absent.

Yes, i misspoke. It's a Daffodil. Thank you so much for the education. As to the point of focus, that's it. As has been pointed out ad nauseam, when this lens is shot wide open it will not produce a tack sharp result. That's not the object. When shot wide open at MFD, the zone of focus is roughly 1/8th inch. This is obviously not the kind of image that appeals to you. To each his own.

In the other photo, the white flowers are snowdrops. Of course, you already knew that. The focus was on them, not on the Blue Stars, which I'm sure you also knew.

Incidentally, this thread is for images shot with the f/1.2 Noctilux, not the 50mm APO.

Peter, please allow us to enjoy this thread of shots to taken with the new 50 1.2 Noctilux, which to many of us is a 'very' interesting lens and which have been shared for us to enjoy. In the past you heavily criticized the regular Noctilux thread and if you do not enjoy this new Noctilux thread as well I implore you to stay in the 50 APO thread that you do seem to enjoy so much and leave these Noctilux threads to us who love this new lens and all of the Noctilux lenses, thank you.

Beautiful. I would guess you are also his best friend. You realize, I'm sure, that Mr Trump named his youngest son after your dog.

This shot is definitely one worth clicking for the lightbox view.

Cheers, Brent

Prior to purchasing this new f/1.2, I downloaded sample images shot wide open and examined them. I was clear to me that at full aperture, nothing in the image was tack sharp, however, the out of focus areas were very appealing to me. Stopped down, it becomes a different lens altogether.

Having taking a bit of flack the other day for my "blurry" images, I decided to post a couple of examples of how much difference there is in just a couple of stops. First, back to the daffodil--one shot at f/1.2 and the other at f/2.8.

I knew the character of this lens going in and have no regrets whatsoever about the performance. It does exactly what I expected it to do.

Another comparison I decided to do was something with print, in order to show the difference in sharpness of the letters between f/1.2 and f/2.8.

If sharpness was the only consideration, I'd be shooting with the 50 APO or the new 35 APO. However, I'm willing to give up a bit of that in order to get the artistic and, in my opinion, beautiful out of focus areas.
