TheGodParticle/Hari Posted March 4, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted March 4, 2021 (edited) Sample image, shot with the APO35/2 on the safari M10p > Purpose of this shot is to show the shape of the "bokeh balls" in the background of a wide open shot. Most pleasing are fully circular bokeh balls, the "cats eye" shape isn't as pleasing. This lens renders closer to the fully circular balls which is a plus. Stopped down bokeh balls test coming soon. TheGodParticle/Hari Posted March 4, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted March 4, 2021 (edited) Sample image, shot with the APO35/2 on the safari M10p > Close focus shot at 0.3M, wide open at f2, using the EVF. The lens certainly resolves details not easily visible to the human eye. When I look at the camera, the dust around the shutter speed dial is hardly visible. Welcome, dear visitor! jplomley Posted March 4, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 4, 2021 Would love to see a comparison of resolution, rendering and bokeh against the 35 Lux FLE.

Am comparing the APO35/2 against the 35/2ASPH v1 as well as the 35/1.4 FLE (at f2 of course), images coming soon.

Bonus coverage. 😉 Jeff Sure, will include some 1.4 shots in. Will be interesting to see how the close focus increases the subject isolation + the overall falloff/bokeh, which are some of the f1.4 advantages. 1
Casey Jefferson Posted March 4, 2021 Share #12 Posted March 4, 2021 Finally! Food shots from Leica M 35mm lenses! Can't say I like the rendering, maybe too clinical. Beautiful bokeh though, and amazing size for the performance!
ZHNL Posted March 4, 2021 Share #13 Posted March 4, 2021 For cat eye evaluation, please include mid distance .7-1.5M results. At 0.3M, it is not very telling, especially with lens have heavy focus breath.
cuongdang Posted March 4, 2021 Share #14 Posted March 4, 2021 APO performance is not true APO, beware!

According to my DoF calculator: 35mm f/1.4 at 0.7m: DOF = 5.06 cm 35mm f/2.0 at 0.3m: DOF = 1.22 cm !!
beewee Posted March 4, 2021 Share #16 Posted March 4, 2021 I’d be very curious to know how well the 35 APO works on the SL2 and SL2-S sensor in the frame corners. Especially at infinity and at close distances.
evikne Posted March 4, 2021 Share #17 Posted March 4, 2021 1 minute ago, Steven said: Thanks. So where is the threshold ? Where do you need to be on the APO at F2 to get the exact same DOF as the FLE at 1.4 and 70cm?! At f/2.0 and 60 cm the DOF is 5.21 cm. So only 10 cm closer is enough to compensate for one less f-stop.
beewee Posted March 4, 2021 Share #18 Posted March 4, 2021 26 minutes ago, Steven said: So far, it's stellar. Almost as if it were made for it. Which makes me think of another bonus of this lens. I always wanted to use the SL35 on my Sony body but it was impossible. Now it is ! the M version. Thanks! Can you get pixel level sharpness on the corners? I was thinking about the 35 APO SL but the main reason is for the image quality. But if the 35 APO M is just as good on the SL2-S then I would prefer the smaller size and the fact that I can use it on my M10 as well.

He's covered all that in a current 21 page article.
