If you’re going to stomp around and emit as much flatulence as you have, at least do the rest of us a courtesy and open the damn window!

The forum should be renamed to the “old and crusty geriatric seniors society” as the type of discussion here points to a lot of bored and hostile people. And frankly, a lot of that hostility isn’t coming from “Leica haters”.

Maybe change the thread title to

LEICA LENSES ARE OK BUT SONY<CANON<FUJI< NIKON ETC ARE MUCH BETTER OBVIOUSLY.

Then everyone would be fine with it.

Whats the point of being on a leica forum and fearing the hatred that leica get elsewhere in social media land?

F**k em i say!!

That’s right! You show em, Steve!

But I did open the window.

How about you, your attitude and your two posts take a flying leap out of it? 😊

It's not the brand that people hate. It's the douchebags, arrogant snobs, cult zombies and senseless marketing hype.

I don't really find Leica owners to be douchebags or arrogant snobs - certainly not in larger numbers than in the general population.

I honestly believe most of those who spout vitriol towards the brand do so because they feel the products are priced far too high, and out of reach for many.  I have little doubt that if the lenses were priced at Zeiss/Voigtlander levels and the bodies at Fuji levels, many of those 'haters' would be converts.

I don't personally buy Leica for status or bragging rights.  Most of the people I know have never heard of the brand and couldn't care less about camera gear, so I have nobody to impress. I buy it because I enjoy using it and appreciate the design and the history.  I have little doubt that I could buy another brand and get similar image quality for a much smaller investment.  But the other brands I've used don't feel or look as good to me and I don't enjoy using them as much.

While I'm sure there are exceptions, I have little doubt that most owners and members of this forum own Leica for the same reasons I do, not to impress people with their expensive toys.

Yes, thankfully, the membership of this forum is not at all representative of the general public.

Nice to see the Leica Forum in violent agreement and harmony.

I have two rules (which help my marginal, borderline personality):

(1) don’t post anything you would say face to face, and

(2) if your post has no purpose than to be insulting, don’t bother posting.

It doesn’t always work, and much of what’s posted here fails miserably.  The Official Leica Chicken simply posted an article he thought might have been, hmmm, interesting to some on a Leica forum?  Many of the responses (a) lacked respect, (b) failed in basic comprehension (Her Barnack didn’t write the fucking article), and (c) shouldn’t have been posted in the first place (see (1) & (2) above).

This is a nice place - how about not turning it into DP Review?

Is there any marketing hype on canon, nikon, sony, fuji and olympus websites? or do they take a more honest approach and play down their products?

Here is a piece from canon uk " our 10-22 f3.5-5.6 zoom is frankly a lens aimed at the amateur market and its pretty average but you could buy it anyway"

Maybe i just dreamt that though?

@IkarusJohn  Hear, hear.

I posted an article that someone else wrote, that's all.

Jeezuz - it's not like I was trying to sell $40,000 elephant hide camera bags. 😳

@Oswalt  While you are not entirely to blame, it has come to my attention that at times the following is highly recommended attire for safe passage in these parts:

We could all take a lesson from Peter Karbe. He exibits humility and grace in his response to the interviewer's preposterous question (the title of this thread).  In a nut shell Karbe states a fact that every scientist and engineer, if they are being honest, knows to be true, "we stand on the shoulders of giants".   Everything we do,  anything we achieve could not have been without all of the achievements made by those who have come before us...all the way back to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. Leica is most certainly not unique in this respect. His humility and grace is refreshing and ought to stand as an example to all of us.
