Is he running the place yet? I especially like the swirling dog photo you posted! What happened to Casper? I thought your pictures of that dog were so cool. MUSINGS OF A DISTURBED LEICA MIND: This looks like a cracker of a lens. I started out shooting 28mm/2 on the M8 as a standard 35mm focal. Then the M9 came out and I got the 35mm/2 Summicron + 50/1.4 Lux. That seemed like the standard kit, but eventually that 28mm Summicron kept ending up on the M9, 240, and the M10 more and more. Something about the 28mm focal I like. Paired with the 50APO it just seems perfect for me. Yes, I bought the 50APO, the LHSA black paint version. So, I sold the 35/2 Summicron as it was a fine lens and I did like the OOF rendering but, it just never got used, I did especially like the size, though. And, to complicate and really mess up my mind I had bought along the way a current version 35mm/1.4 Summilux... both the first and second version(kept the ver.II). And, I still didn't shoot much with the 35 Summilux. Then Jono reviewed the new version II of the 28mm/2 Summicron several years ago, and it was such an improvement from my version 1. I sold my version 1, bought the version 2 and am very happy with it. Now, this APO 35 comes alone and it seems like I'm just going to have to wrestle with that obsessive side of my mind whispering to me. When, really, I just wish the 28/1.4 Summilux wasn't so blessed large! Favorite chicken picture ever was from that lens! Hi There Rick I hope you're keeping well - all good here - we've had our first vaccination a month ago! First of all Caspar - he and Matty used to fight - really quite badly, basically they hated each other - So he went to live with Emma's cousin (who had done a lot of house sitting for us). It's been brilliant, they've both turned into happy and relaxed dogs - especially big change in Matty. I rather fancy the first version of the Summilux 35 as well (never had one). I think this new lens is wonderful - but as you say, it isn't 28mm! I'm actually rather with Steven on this - I had both the new summicron and the summilux (28mm) and after much heart searching I sold the summicron - the summilux really is a wonderful lens, and you do get used to the size. As for the chicken shots . . . I think they're in here! https://www.slack.co.uk/2015/summilux28/index.html# 1

She is spoiled by having grown up during COVID and as such she really only knows us and has had one of us around all the time. I'm sure she thinks she is human, I'm waiting for her to start talking. Those chicken shots on your site shouldn't be taken for granted. They are some of the best examples of how that lens handles light and shows off the OOF background. Too smooth and 3d looking. color is amazing. I know you and Steve feel it your favorite. I should get rid of my 35lux, 28cron and probably my 50sum. When you met Bailey she was 8 weeks old and as you said, we became mum. Here she is at 55lbs with a 28mm lens... IkarusJohn Posted March 8, 2021 Share #104 Posted March 8, 2021 (edited) Hi Rick, Detente here, with Sheba the Portuguese Water Dog at the back of the house with access to our small garden, and Felafel the Wonder Cat, an ageing burmese, at the front. Sheba would love to play with Felafel, but he’s not having a bar of it. My current go to combination is the black chrome 50 APO Summicron and 28 Summilux on my M10-D. It’s about all I need most of the time. The Monochrom alternative is the 50 Summilux ASPH, or 50/2 Summitar, and 28 Summaron-M. The 21, other 50s and 75 seem to be sitting in the drawer at the moment. After a tough year, and loss of my partner’s mother (a remarkable woman), I’m just getting more interested in taking photos. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Back on topic, the new 35 APO Summicron isn’t for me. For wide, 21 & 28 are more my thing, and 50 as a standard is better. The 35 Summicron ASPH was my first Leica lens (on my M9) - great introduction, and very good single lens, but I tired of it. Somehow it was just a bit ... boring. Probably my photography! My only 35 is the Summilux pre-asph, bought on a whim - it’s a tricky lens. The drama of the 28 Summilux-M is more satisfying, and it really is up their with the 50 APO. Trust you’re well. Rick Posted March 8, 2021 Share #105 Posted March 8, 2021 John, Very nice to hear from you and glad you are well. Sorry to hear about your mum. My mother died at 100 just 2 years ago and she was wonderful and fierce. Still miss her but, it was time. I also miss our "discussions." What I write next will be in complete agreement with you, so unlike us! Everything you said about the focal length lenses you have travelled through is true of me as well. I'm happy with the 50APO and the 28 Cron. Like you I bought a bunch of lenses back in the day as well and find, like you I could just use 50 & 28 and I'd be fine. Also, I find 35 too much of a standard FL and much prefer the challenge and look I can get with 28. Sold my 35cron for the same reasons and the 35 lux ver.II is such a fine lens but, I just don't find 35mm FL exciting, more just standard. Also like you, I have hardly taken pictures for the last year and I'm getting my mind back around getting out and thinking creatively. This whole discussion has made my mind up and I'm going to simplify and trade in a bunch of my good glass and concentrate on 50APO and 28 Lux(I'll trade up to it soon). Glad to hear you are well, Rick

Understatement! Be careful of that Mr Slack - I thought the idea of a black and white sensor in a digital M was daft, then Jono wrote his review and I played with his China pictures (still have and love my silver Monchrom), then there were soo many more things I didn’t realise I needed until Jono reviewed them ... the 28 Summilux was a great buy, though!
