Hi,

just checking, my sl2s shows an odd luminous line from the top panel edge. very visible.

This means that when the top display is backlit, looking at the camera at an angle shows a line of light coming from within.

The glass cover is flush, so this seems to be to do with the internals of the camera.

Is this normal? have you noticed?  it happens only on one side and it is most visible from the front

I see the same on mine as well. I only see it on the edge that’s closer to the dial as well as part of the edge in the front and rear that’s closer to the dial. I don’t see it on the edge closest to the viewfinder. It seems like the display isn’t quite sitting flush to the underside of the cover glass/body. Maybe it’s lacking some kind of clip or adhesive to fully seal the light bleed from the edge of the top display.

I’ve actually never noticed this until you pointed it out. Even when shooting stars at night. I need to look at it at an acute angle from above the viewfinder to notice it.

ok obviously not a show stopper but a silly mistake of the designers who could have figured this out and included a mask between the display and the glass.  SL first series does not have this. From a 4k product which is supposed to be functional AND beautiful, one would expect more attention to details... but we will live with it : )

Yes, it does. At least mine does, albeit not quite to the same extent as the pic above. Same side (only) but a little thinner/dimmer.

Have the same exact issue on my SL2-S which I just received yesterday. It’s the side closest to the top dial. I’m returning mine to B&H because of this. I didn’t expect this from an $5K camera. My other cameras costing much less don’t have gaps around the lcd.

Rare? After nearly three years of intensive use and superb results from my SL2-S, I've just looked and mine is the same - I never noticed before. I'm shocked, I'm sending it back and I'll never buy anything from Leica again. I've been telling all my friends how much I spent on this camera so they'd look up to me, and now they will laugh at my misjudgement. I'll never be able to go out in public again.

Well, if not noticed, is it an issue?

For me it’s an issue. It bugs me.

Some people buy the camera to use it. But I suppose new people look at the camera from every angle and find a flow.

Once the paint has a few dings in it, nobody cares anymore.

in any case, $5000 is just the beginning of your problem, most lenses cost more.

Are you suggesting I don’t use my cameras and that I’m new to photography?

Yeah, my cameras have dings and paint chips too but they weren’t shipped that way.

nope, I didn't say that. It is just right to do what is right for you.

But the light you see is the LED that lights the screen, and have see in before on other cameras.

What are you going to buy/use instead of your returned SL2?

Yes, it’s the backlight under the LCD shining through the gap on one side. The LCD on my other cameras such as my Z9 for example, are sealed around all sides. I’m just surprised that a camera company of this caliber would allow this. The rest of the camera is flawless.

Don’t know yet. Maybe look for a used SL2s. If it’s has the same issue I’ll feel better for not having paid full retail. I do the camera but if I’m paying full retail then I want it to be perfect.

I just found out that I can see a 0.1 mm light line when I look at the lCD totally skewed. However as that gives me a nasty neck-ache when I attempt to see it,  I cannot, as much as I try, regard this as a design flaw.

I had to get mine out and look. I have never noticed anything. over my years with theSL2. Like jaapv I can just detect a tiny line if I hold the camera very skewed at an unnatural non-functional in use angle.  Honestly, I would not be concerned.
On reliability and the design, I have never had a single issue with the SL System over a couple of hundred thousand exposures at a guess.
In my personal experience this is the most reliable fault free system I have ever used from Leica.  I also think it has the best menu system and the best lenses of all available too in the APO Summicrons. I have my name on a list for a hypothetical SL3 if it appears.
