MikeMyers Posted February 10, 2021 Share #1  Posted February 10, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was looking for a lens compatibility chart in this forum, but either I missed it or it doesn't exist. My question - I have this collapsible 50mm lens on my M3.  It's clean (now), and other than the aperture ring being "sticky", it seems to be in good working order.  I would like to verify two things: a) I am almost certain that I was told this lens would work properly on my M10 body, but I need to extend the lens before mounting or removing it, because of limited space inside the body. b) I read that my M8.2 has even less free space in the body.  I was told the lens would work fine on the M8.2, but there was a question whether or not it's safe to retract on that body. Any thoughts on this?  Or should I visit the Leica Store in Miami, and show it to them before using it on the M8.2 ? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Hi MikeMyers, Take a look here Will old collapsible 50mm Summicron be safe to collapse on digital bodies. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted February 10, 2021 Share #2  Posted February 10, 2021 Yes, you can collapse the Summicron in every Leica M. I've used this same lens on my M (LTM with adaptor) film or digital. Observe the a) point you wrote, and use the lens happily 😉.
jwr50 Posted February 10, 2021 Share #3 Â Posted February 10, 2021 I long ago sold my M8.2 and no longer have the manual for it, but here is what the manual for my M10-R says (p. 33): "Lenses with retractable tube must only be used with the tube extended, i.e., never attempt to retract the tube while the lens is attached to the camera." tommonego@gmail.com Posted February 10, 2021 Share #4  Posted February 10, 2021 Collapsed the Summicron 50 only has a 6mm extension behing the mount. I use it on my M8 all the time, even my CL I have no problem with it being collapsed. If you want to play safe mount it extended.
jdlaing Posted February 10, 2021 Share #5  Posted February 10, 2021 Yes it’s safe to collapse. On the M8/M8.2 the throat was narrower so some collapsible lenses bore the risk of damaging the throat.
jankap Posted February 10, 2021 Share #6 Â Posted February 10, 2021 Be careful with some APS-C cameras. The smaller sensor can be surrounded by a collar, that can be scratched by the lens mount.
