For all those considering to spend $175 on the Leica remote for SL2, DON'T!!! I was able to purchase this remote for Panasonic and using a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter it works perfect with autofocus and bulb lock. The cost? All in, it was $22 and that includes shipping! No modifications needed, just plug and play.

I will post two more pictures compared to my Leica SL remote and you will see the fit finish is EXACTLY the same! I believe in corporations making profits but $175 for the exact same remote (apart from being 2.5mm) for $22 is pretty shocking.

Thanks for sharing. I was looking into this recently and I found that Panasonic and Leica uses the same signalling for the remote shutter release.

There’s more details about the wiring schematic here: https://www.robotroom.com/Macro-Photography-2.html

Conceivably, someone could build a simple DYI setup where they can remotely trigger the shutter using a Raspberry Pi or Arduino along with a couple resistors and a simple relay or FET switch. It would make for some pretty interesting time lapse tool and would also work with other applications like wildlife/motion/sound/lightning triggers.

Thanks for sharing this. We all accept that there's a premium to pay for Leica gear, but this is really taking the piss. There's no justification or excuse for fleecing your customers to this extent 😳

Thanks for sharing. There always is a premium, but I would call this the ripp-off of the month.

We should define this as a category, define a nice and shiny goblet and hand it over to Leica: Here you won the RIPP-OFF-OF-THE-Month category, be proud.   Ha, would be fun.

Another good use is for time lapse on a gimbal like the Manfrotto gimbals that support the Panasonic release cable. Unfortunately, DJI has gone full USB-C.

Wouldn't this work with the proper adapter?

Would you please give a link where i can buy this cheap one?

I've found it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q2Q5625/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A1F4N8PO4J4R95&psc=1

You also need this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QY2814P/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A6W0O8DQ2720N&psc=1  It must be the 3 ring adapter or it won't work.

I'm using the Panasonic DMW-RS2E on the SL2 (own it anyway for my S1/Rs). It has a separate cable so I don't need an adapter but I'm using another cable with 3.5mm connectors (for about 5 €).

And "Null" if you already have it :).

The post was for those who don’t have one, not for the many others who might have forgotten they had one sitting around. They’ll also need an adapter...in case they also don’t have a spare 3.5mm cable or adapter in the same drawer. 🤪

This is pretty cool... since you can add cables of different lengths.
