Any pics, yet, Grahame?

Sorry I forgot.   Here you go !  Really happy with the camera ... Mine is showing some fraying but I don’t mind and like the feel of the Kevlar too in-use :)

Overall I think the colours and materials used in this edition give it quite a casual feel which is something different.

Sensor / image wise it does the same as my 10D so no surprises or comments there :)

It is indeed 35:1.4 v2 .    Daylight pic was better to show the nice colour in all it's glory but here's a few more.

How is yours going.... not completely out-performed by the 10R yet I hope ?!

I will say, when cropping, the extra real estate is very nice!  I'm torn between which one to keep.  When I shoot my silver R, it draws a lot of attention, when I shoot the Reporter, no one even sees it.

IF you have both, keep both.

So says the guy who is convincing himself to do just that.

I agree, the Reporter is invisible. Not enough people say that because they don't have one and have not experienced it.

In 2025 maybe the M11 Reporter will be introduced and I will trade all in for that.

S2, I never see you post a photo of your Reporter with the Summarit wearing it's beautiful hood.  If you have one I'd love to see it on it taken from a slight angle.

Indeed, Love how understated it is and quite different to a lot of Leica finishes which tend to be a bit more flashy looking.

In terms of performance it is a shame it was one is the final runs of what is now quite an old sensor. But realistically for my style of M photography (street) I don’t think a more “future proof”  10R Or 11 is going to give me noticeably better images.

The real decision is whether to sell my 10D now that I have 2 older generation bodies. That would be extremely hard to part with, so I think not and will bed down with these for the foreseeable future  :)

The other idea I considered was trading both for 10R black paint but back to the original point I love how understated this camera is. And the D is so unique.

The smart thing Leica do is separate their products so we think we need many / all

You should have no trouble selling that body.  I see people clamoring for them all the time.  A lot of people feel that the Reporter, although it's still a limited edition,  won't carry that same demand since the kevlar gets fuzzy very easily and people don't like that.  I'm not sure what to do at this point and my window for returning this to B&H is closing rapidly.

It’s a good point.  The Kevlar doesn’t really bother me as I think that overall the camera is just beautiful.   But if you think the higher resolution is useful for the type of photography you do and more future proof then def worth considering to commit to the larger sensor.

I assume then that you are only planning to keep one ?

@BlackPaint By the way ... considering you are probably doing close comparisons of these 2 cameras - - is it just the convenience of cropping that you are finding as the main difference ? Is there any striking differences in image quality otherwise ?

My photography is mostly snapshot style street phototherapy so I can’t see the upgrade being all that relevant

(I left the auto correct in - I didn’t think phototherapy was even a word but it’s a good one haha )

The cropping is definitely a crutch.  One that I should be able to manage in camera.  But the fact is I actually enjoy post processing --which includes cropping--sometimes into 1:1 ratios and 16:9--ie formats that are not native in most bodies--I blame my iPhone and my old Rollei. And I find that I don't enjoy a lot of planning and framing and re-framing.  I do frame (and reframe), but too much of that and you've lost the moment.  At least I do.  And if I can't find pleasure in the shooting, then why do it?

As for the technical differences in the two sensors--they aren't that far off, but I'm finding that I like the file size of the R and colors in the P.  The way the R handles shadows gives them a muddy look that I can't seem to overcome in post.  I think the answer is in changing lenses.  Going to have to try some Zeiss glass, or a Noctilux  I think.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I can relate to that , I have a 63mp Sony a7riv (the original m11 as I like to joke inappropriately 😌).  It doesn’t get much use since I started using M but the file size and flexibility is gorgeous.

That’s interesting about the shadows for R. Of course the highlights on M10 range can be a challenge also.

I think all things considered I’ll bed down and enjoy this P as for my style I think it’s more than good enough.  I do quite like to frame and not crop too much, only because I also use film M frequently (if not more than digital) and so like the practice / same technique across both.

Thanks again for all the info and good luck with the decision - let us know what you decide ?

Congrats mate! Now let’s have some brass just like that guy!

The green is so beautiful, as appealing as the safari, or otherwise this what the safari should be in green
