I blame Macallan, my resistence caved in  - snap from first trip out.  The best independent coffee in town creates queues.

I find that 28 +50 and 35+75 make very effective pairings when selecting a two-lens kit for travel, depending upon destinations and projects in mind.

My old walk about was a 35/75 pair of Summicrons on a M10. And a 50 Summicron lived on my old Monochrom for times when I felt the need to take an honest photograph. These combos were perfect for 95% of my needs.

When I traded my M9M for a SL, my 75 Summicron became the body cap for the SL and the 50 went into a Pelican case with other less used lenses (too many lens choices can become distracting). When it was time to upgrade my 25 year old 35 Summicron, I thought I would shake things up a bit and went with a 28 mm Elmarit Asph because it was the same size and weight as my old 35, and it carried a far more reasonable price tag. Now my walk about is 28/50.My eyes and brain are still getting accustomed to the change but it does make for a small, light kit.

RE: 75 APO Summicron M. This is a wonderful lens which renders beautifully. I'm always amazed at the resulting photos. I've never seen it as a compromise between a 50 and a 90 (though it is) but more of a illustrative lens, perfect for product photography, portraits, and isolating a subject from a distracting background. My first 20 years with a Leica were spent with a 90 Tele Elmarit and the next 15 with a 90 Elmarit M. Both 90s were great lenses, but there is something magical about the 75 APO Summicron.

Wonderful pose! The color is in the background and supports perfectly the moody atmosphere of the photo! Really very well done Al!! Wisps of hair hair in her face.

The trials and tribulations (for me) of trying to capture sporting events. Three out of about a hundred shots in all taken at this carriage trial event.  Managed to catch a reasonable shot on this pairs second pass.  APO 75mm Summicron: 125 sec @ f11 & f13, 160 iso.  First two shots are about 15% cropped. Last shot 80%.

The third one is best. The others lack clarity or appropriate panning. The slow shutter speed for close range action (1/125th) might be the cause. Did you set follow-focus?

Yes, the third is the one I was reasonably happy with.  On the first round the carriage came closer to where I was standing ( hence the 15% crop) and I was finding panning and focusing at the same time challenging, as the pair approached and came past.   It was late afternoon and the light was starting to fade and I had to keep an eye on the exposure as I was determined  to stick with iso 160.   The  further two below which I am happy with were taken at f2.8 at 1500sec.  The first again is a 15% ish crop, and the second another 80%.

Ah! re-reading my two posts no. 93  & 95 I see that I forgot to mention that the camera used was an M9.

75mm/35mm seems like a great 2-lens combination.

Full disclosure, I have a 90mm, not a 75.

On Olympus OM I use the 35 and 85 Zuiko f2 lenses for this. I also use the 24 Zuiko a lot as well. On a rangefinder, I also use the 24 and 35 a lot but couldn't gel with the 75, in spite of owning one three times. Its frame lines are annoyingly close to the 50 and incomplete and its just long enough to be tricky to focus without really warranting a VF magnifier. In the end I settled on the 90 Elmarit and use it either with the Visoflex or a 1.4 mag.

Magical rendering (for me) that other 75mm I use can not give.

I use three 75mm (f1.4/2/2.5) but the first Summilux-M IS the one and only magical 75mm

it was the "must" with slow Kodachrome

I own  2 75mm lenses. The 75Lux is a special lens and I use it only when "special" rendering is needed, p.ex. Wedding or so.

Elsewhere, my 75AA is only in my bag when combined with the 28Cron. Means, it is a "combo" only lens. My use of this lens is exclusively for travel or landscape.
