That's interesting, my M-A strap has leathers "bumpers" as you call them, I wonder if Leica have changed the strap recently?
Advertisement Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Hi Matlock, Take a look here Opinions on Half Cases. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rob L Posted December 18, 2020 Share #22 Posted December 18, 2020 The paint on MPs is very soft, softer than the black digital cameras which are some sort of epoxy coating. MPs are designed to brass. Those leather flaps behind the split ring on most straps accomplish nothing, as the entire assembly will still rub the camera when it is swinging around. Best solution is a chrome camera and a long strap with a cross chest carry to avoid the swinging.

My MP came with a nylon stock strap (I think it is product number 14312) which looks like the M6's strap. It may be identical. The plastic bumpers lock the two ends of the metal part that go into the strap lugs on the camera. It is a very good design actually. But the hard plastic scratched the paint. I knew my camera would be scratched through my use so I wanted it to at least look beautiful when it was scratched

Actually that is a very good strap, I have a couple. With a half case it is not a problem

I would like to buy a Arte di Mano Shell Cordovan half case but when I saw its price tag I couldn't justify purchasing it. I also liked the brown color of Rally Volpe. Maybe I will buy it in near future but eventhough if I buy a half case I would think of using it in travel because I like the proportions and handling of the naked camera. And eventhough I like the idea of brassing the camera I am stressed over the possibility of not being able to buy a new Leica in my lifetime because of the failing economic situation of my country. So I guess I will use it more carefully than many people and it will gather a "humble" amount of "memories"

As for brassing, I believe that it should be achieved over a fairly long period of use, I just can't understand people who go to work on their camera with sandpaper etc. I saw one camera with brassing in places that no part of the human body could possibly reach and it just looked ridiculous.

I have that strap for my MP & M240 but on occasion (especially during extensive handling/usage through the day) the plastic "bumper" dislodges & move up the strap, leaving the metal half ring device exposed & has almost wound itself out of the strap lug - has only happened on the 240 (maybe the bumper is faulty?). Anyone else experienced this?

I agree with you 100%. I simply can't understand people using sand paper on their beautiful cameras. In my opinion it is some kind of disrespect to the maker of these beautiful machinery who try their best to make sure that they serve the customer with best finish possible on their cameras. On the other hand I have seen beautiful examples of ''fake brassing'' in Japanese and Chinese market. They brass the cameras very realistically. Still I wouldn't buy fake brassing from those though. That aged look should be earned thorugh use in my opinion. Anyone else experienced this? I only used that strap for 2 days. After that I changed the strap so my experience wouldn't help with your problem. But I didn't have any problem like yours throughout my short time of usage.
