Advertisement Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Hi Daedalus2000, Take a look here SL2-S vs. other cameras - image thread (24 megapixel BSI sensor with Leica lenses). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted December 12, 2020 Share #22  Posted December 12, 2020 23 hours ago, Chaemono said: They should make every SL like that and vary the color of the dot only, red with white letters for the high res version, black with silver letters for the SL2-M, and silver with black letters for the 24 MPx one.  Good luck with that. Leica Microsystems owns the trademark/logo and licenses it to Leica Camera. When Leica Camera placed a black dot on the black M8.2 (the silver version retained the red dot), apparently Leica Microsystems was not pleased.  It hasn’t happened since (only no dot or screw, etc).  Jeff

Leica did not want to be forced to use black dot logo. Red dot is very noticeable for a reason ! Some salesmen invent a completely false story never backed by any officials. I guess that it is a convenient lie. Otherwise customers would have forced Leica to use only the black dot.  Leica Camera AG has perpetual rights to Leica trademarks for anything related to cameras and binoculars. It is not a typical licensing scheme. Even more, Leica Camera AG is the sole Leica company with the rights to use the White scripted Leica within a red dot 🔴 logo ! Other three Leica companies has to use the red scripted Leica over plain white. No dot at all.  Leica just continue to use the white scripted Leica within a black dot ⚫ for several limited editions such as the two Bauhaus CL. Welcome, dear visitor! nicci78 Posted December 12, 2020 Share #25  Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) By the way Dr Kaufman has hinted about renaming Leica Camera AG back to Ernst Leitz name. Just like he just renamed its cinema company CW (Cine Wetzlar) Sonderoptics with Leica Cine as commercial name into Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH with Leitz Cine as commercial brand   I guess that Dr Kaufman really like the Leitz brand. After the new complex at Wetzlar is named Leitz park and not Leica park   https://www.film-tv-video.de/business/2018/06/21/cw-sonderoptic-wird-leitz-cine-wetzlar/ Welcome, dear visitor! I never said Leica was forced to use black dot; in fact the contrary.  I was told by someone with close company contacts that the red dot was the approved logo and the black dot was put on the black M8.2 without expected approvals from Leica Microsystems. The silver version had the expected red logo. My comment had nothing to do with the company name or white lettering; only the red vs black logo. Chaemono Posted December 13, 2020 Author Share #27  Posted December 13, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The SL2 and the SL2S render the OOF areas slightly differently, BTW. I see a bit more background blur in the SL2 pictures at f/2.8 and, therefore, a bit more subject separation.
Chaemono Posted December 13, 2020 Author Share #28  Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) 28 Summilux-M on the SL2S wide open. It isn't the sharpest lens to begin with and I didn't have time to do the focus at infinity wide open and angle the lens to look at the corners. It looks good in these. scott kirkpatrick Posted December 13, 2020 Share #32  Posted December 13, 2020 Could one of you guys set up a nice stable SL2S and try good test of the multi-shot feature? Even a tabletop tripod will do if it's stable. You can use a Fotos remote to eliminate camera shake. A good demanding test shot will have a nice range of colors, and lots of edges in a relatively flat surface. Store signs, perhaps? Chaemono Posted December 17, 2020 Author Share #36  Posted December 17, 2020 ISO 6400 SL2-S vs. S5 The ISO 640 files were misfocused. I will redo them and post the results later. The SL2-S did great at ISO 640 but when shadows were lifted by 100 it showed some white speckles in the dark areas. The S5 showed none. The SL2-S does better here with less and more pleasing noise at ISO 6400. Unfortunately, there is something going on with the S5 RAW files and I can't compare the two. Basically, RAW files aren't quite as raw as one thinks they are: https://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2012/10/raw-is-not-raw.html 😂 The SL2-S seems to prfioritize highlights at a given shutter speed, hence, slower shutter speed to match exposure required. Less compressed JPEGs here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-VRrRQh/ S5 opened in LR, not touched, zero NR, Sharpening +40 Welcome, dear visitor! The only explanation I can think of is that metadata in the DNG file prevents Lightroom from more shadow recovery.
