M10P @ F/2.0 (!) Very sharp corner to corner, brand of bike easy to read "Batavus". All shots focussed with rangefinder.

The focus is perfect on my M9, using a 1.25x magnifier, at F2 and F4 from closest-focus to infinity. There is no focus shift.

My standard test target, have used for hundreds of lenses:

F2:

And at F2- infinity focus.

the rendering of this lens reminds me of the 50 Cron V5 (non-APO). The focus falloff is a little slow and the bokeh and OOF rendering can be a little harsh from the pictures posted. But overall this looks like a great addition to the lenses available for M. Kudos for Voigtlander. It is a shame that Zeiss isn't doing the same.

Just worked through some comparison shots with this and a few other lenses. I would agree with you.  DOF is a bit larger than equivalent aperture on my 50/1.4 ASPH and C-Sonnar, bokeh is a bit harsher than the ASPH but on par with the Sonnar (not particularly challenging bokeh tests, just some plants in background).  Vignetting at f/2 is larger than one might expect for a 'large' f/2 lens.  But holy crap, is it SHARP.  Super resolution and contrast on my M10M at f/2, all across the frame.

It's also slightly wider FOV compared to other of the two lenses.  The C-Sonnar is ever so slightly wider than the 50 ASPH, but the APO-Lanthar is noticeably wider than either.  Playing with some shots in PS and scaling them, it looks like it is around 48.5mm compared to the ASPH at 51.4mm and the C-Sonnar at 50.3mm (last two measurements from a Lens Rentals blog post).

Bokeh at f2 is alright at the corner, but in the center of the image looks great.

(cropped) The branch is tack sharp and no visible CA! That impressed me a lot.

Another at F2.

Full-res jpegs uploaded, click on "Full-Res" for full resolution.

This lens is sharp. There is vignetting at F2, almost 2 stops at the extreme corners of the image when used at infinity. By F4- almost gone. Used closer-in, vignetting just is not as noticeable- but I did not measure it.

On the M Monochrom, lens set to infinity, using the home-made light-box.

Basically the review says.

Not taken many pictures with this lens but i can tell you now its the best 50mm for a leica m.

Then we are shown a series of tiny images against 2 other lenses to prove the truth about the lens.

Then we are told the reviewer has never tried the leica 50mm apo ??????.

The reviewer then points out that there is no practical use for 3 very fast lenses including the noctilux. because basically they are rubbish.

Looking forward to his next project "the history of world war 2" which is 9 pages long.

I appreciate the feedback. I've rephrased "best 50mm for Leica M" to be more specific about I mean. I also fully concede that my opinions about >f/1.4 lenses are 100% opinion and many people really like lenses like the Noctilux.

I'm sorry I don't have a comparison against the Leica APO, but renting one would cost about $300. I have a question though, what differences would one expect to see between these two lenses? The Voigtlander APO appears to be perfect in all aspects I've tested, maybe there are some other characteristics in which the Leica could be better that I'm not aware of?

Regarding the small size of the images, I'll remove the 50/1.5 II tests so that the images show up larger. The 50/1.5 II comparison didn't add much anyways.
