Advertisement Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Hi lct, Take a look here Is this likely to be a genuine Leica infrared filter?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I have the lens hood, marked "LEITZ CANADA 12504 1:1.4/35" I think you're suggesting a "49mm filter" will fit, but some might need to be inserted backwards. I have a filter marked: "FUJIFILM SUPER EBC. FUJINON PROTECTOR 49mm MADE IN JAPAN" which is too large in diameter to fit into the lens hood. Not sure if I have any Series VII filters to try - will go through my filter collection again. If the Kolari 49mm filter is the same as my Fuji filter, it's too big. I'll dig through all my filters, and see what I can find. Thanks - I'm much closer I think to finding something that will work. ....added later - the opening in the back of the lens hood is 42mm. Never mind what I wrote - I found the lens hood comes apart, and a 49mm filter drops in and works perfectly. THANK YOU!!!!!!! beewee Posted August 1, 2021 Share #23 Posted August 1, 2021 6 hours ago, MikeMyers said: Thanks for the link - those 39mm filters should fit onto an old 50mm Summicron lens. I might buy some more of them. I never figured out a way to get filters onto my 35mm Summilux, which would sometimes be better on the M8.2 because of the crop factor - the 50mm behaves more like a 75, and the 35 behaves more like a 50. I used to know where there were some very helpful discussions in this forum for shooting IR with the M8.2. I also need to find my old notes on how to swap the color channels using DxO PhotoLab4. Not sure which 35 lux you have but the ASPH versions had hotspots when shooting in IR. Probably because of the concave front element. I haven’t tried the latest version 28mm elmarit ASPH but the previous version with the clip on hood worked well in IR on the M8.2. It was equivalent to a 35mm FOV and shares the same 39mm filter. If you want to find old threads about IR, just look up the following keywords: M8 IR Hotspot The biggest issue with most lenses for IR is that a fair number of them would produce strong ghosting or hotspots in the middle of the frame due to internal reflections. Some lenses behaved better than others. The 50 cron v4 was pretty good, as was the 28 elmarit ASPH v1.
MikeMyers Posted August 1, 2021 Author Share #24 Posted August 1, 2021 I guess I'll find out soon enough how well this works. Regarding the Kolari filters, I found I could buy them direct from Kolari at a reasonable price, and pay for them via my Amazon account. Done. This page makes it easy to select a filter ( https://kolarivision.com/articles/choosing-a-filter/ ); just scroll down to the illustrations, showing the differences. I bought the "590 nm filter" as I also enjoy the color images that can be created. Thanks for the "push" in the right direction. Now that I understand how the lens hood works, things are easier.
