Have you tried saving as jpeg? Might solve your problem.

No I haven't ...I normally upload PNGs. The forum display code is lossy enough as it is... let alone after chucking a JPG at it:-) In mono the PNGs are OK. Just... now there seems to be a 'prob' so asking around to see if I have to fix something here or file a bug if others are 'apparently' having a problem. I say this because the forum code has changed very recently and this is probably my first attempt (after the forum code update/upgrade).

I think pretty much everything you see posted here are jpeg format. Posting lossless is likely too much file for uploading here. Here are the instructions provided for posting images.

How to upload images:

Prepare the image as follows:
1.   The image should be sRGB and 8-bits
2.   Reduce the size to 2480 pixels on the longest side. (smaller sizes can be set, but are not recommended)
3.   Sharpen properly for screen.
4.   Save as JPG to your desktop, reducing JPG quality to produce 1000 kB (2000 kB for sponsoring members).
5.   In Lightroom these parameters should be set in the Export dialog.
6.   In the Forum posting or editing box, click “choose Files” and select the image.

It is also possible to embed an image through linking, but the  embedded image must still fall within the forum size rules above. There is also the risk of a broken link when the image is moved or deleted on the other site. Not recommended.

When you find an image on the forum you see a preview. Click on it for good quality. When the plus symbol appears click on it for full size.

Pretty much everything I upload/post for the MONOCHRON has always been PNG... If you encode the greyscale ICC the anticipated 'size penalty' doesn't really bite quite as much as you might've expected. I can keep the sizes down to about 2.30MB even with the long size up to 2300px... but without any losses (except the display JPG loss incurred with the forum's re-coding for preview).

I always click the '+' for a full size view:-) My server is coded to not allow Flickr URLs so when those are used by others I miss out on the higher resolution view.

Have not and will never use LR.

Something has recently changed... either on my stuff or with the forum. Nobody else has indicated a similar issue so I expect it must be me, which is OK as I can fix. Just baffled as to what has changed and where.

Uploaded as a JPG instead of my normal PNG. Full crop to reduce background. This little chap 'bent' his 80kg rated foldable ramp walking up into the back of his owner's SUV.

You are not working out the sizes for PNGs appropriately, well, certainly
differently than from before... my 1900px long PNG is well within your
declared bounds but your input code reports: 2.1 mb · Upload Failed
Maybe you're adding ICC overhead or something. Doesn't make sense.

The instructions do say " ... to produce 1000 kB (2000 kB for sponsoring members)."  1 MB (or 2 MB ) is a hard limit.  What does your computer report as the size of that file?

The 'instructions' are a bit inaccurate. I output the PNG as I have been doing for... quite some while. This problem has arisen after the recent forum code update/upgrade. Something changed. As I said earlier I output the image as 'usual', which included ensuring it was within a long established limit. My computer reports the size of the file as being: Size on disk: 2.14 MB (2,248,704 bytes)

The jpeg files you have managed to upload look just fine on my monitor.
