My second day with Vario Elmar-T 18-56

AF may be helpful in some situations, but I wish I could find a way to control the exposure to my taste. AF and AE being in the same little square is not very practical for me. I have much more control of everything with MF lenses, but I guess it is also useful to have an AF lens!... After more than a year using several MF lenses, I guess I need more time to get used to this lens that is not very friendly for low light! It is, indeed, a quite slow glass! p181485085-6.jpg

these look very good.

if you say you feel more comfy with mf - you can allways focus the 18-56 manually anyway.

The "problem" AE and AF in the same window - I have EV on the wheel so one can correct quite fast if necessary.

I find the exposure metering of the T easier to handle than that of the M.

Very nice shots Louis!

And BTW the little square can be moved.

This is what I have always heard about; this was how I used to do with my Nikon and even DLux cameras; but I couldn't figure it out with T yet!... I certainly need more practice and time to learn about this lens! :)

Thank you very much, Tom. I still have to learn much about T with an AF lens. I must figure out how to program the 2 dials. Also, I must see the difference between AFc and AFs, and to figure out which one works the best for me for me! :)

Thanks Louis. A street market in a very nice small town you probably know: Morges, VD.

Of course I know Morges; the lovely little town before Lausanne! :D

Not too far after  Creux de Genthod, where I used to have the best Filets de Perche in the world! ;)

Few celebrities that I knew used to live around there: Yul Brynner whose son was in school with me (but older), and Steward Granger that I used to see often in night clubs in Geneva! LOL

Go to the "Autofocus mode" screen and tap the small arrow to the right of "Spot" or "Single point". You can then directly position the AF frame with your finger or move it around using the wheels.

Or you can choose the "Touch AF" mode and point where you want the camera to focus. There is even a Touch and Release mode which will take the picture. Quite useful at low shutter speed because you avoid shaking the camera by pressing the shutter release button.

Now, no more excuses. You have to go and practice.  :p

Here are a few with the T and the Zeiss 25mm Biogon.  Nice light here on the Coast of Maine this afternoon.  Mostly f 5.6, ISO 100 at 1/200th with B&W polarizer.

Here is an approx 100% crop from the above photo ..  the 25mm Zeiss is really quite sharp, contrasty and colorful IMO.

There is a lot of moisture in the air here by the water, I often use a polarizer.

Louis and Rick, your pictures are beautiful, nicely composed and perfectly focused, you bring the ebst out of Leica :-)

John, thank you for the kind words. Like many of us, the Leica T is new to me ... Every day is a discovery, I am still learning how to successfully control the menu and all the features this camera has. It really is a jewel ... and a joy to use.

Thanks Ricks, the light in your pictures is rather lovely.

Yes the T-really does produce some outstanding results and I am looking forward to getting out and using mine again when I get a chance.

My only wish was that it had a bulb setting as a 30s duration is not enough for some of the photos I produce.

Jean-Pierre, I am with you and I am joining the Leica T bashers club. I am very disappointed of the new firmware, it doesn't even open my garage door or even change channels on my TV!... Shame on you, Leica! ...

I would suggest: just forget AFC with the T.
