Chasm of the Colorado

Painted by Thomas Moran, an American painter, born in Bolton, England, in 1837. He was one of the principal artists of the Hudson River School in New York whose work often featured the Rocky Mountains.

In a very dark museum; still handheld with my trusted T and Nikkor 50 mm, f/1.4

Mr. the King!

Inspired by tritentue's outstanding bird shots, I put my old Nikkor 300 mm AI lens on my T, and as I didn't have any other options, head the Washington DC Zoo to see what I can do with this huge and heavy lens.

Bad surprise; the Birds section was closed for renovation. But since I was there, I had to try something with this 300 mm lens. A huge crowd of visitors was everywhere and blocking everything in this hot summer day ! Focusing is mostly just a guess!

I could only mange to take a few shots of the big cats; I did not have a tripod with me; and handheld, it was extremely difficult, if not impossible, to have a good focus. Not only because of the weight, but mostly because  with a long range lens, everything seems to be in a terrible earthquake through the view finder!

Leica T + Nikkor 300 mm AI.
