Good shots, Louis! They convey very vividly the feeling of a community shut down for the duration. It looks like you’re all in for an uncomfortable time. Take care!

Thanks very much, Robert. Today we have a beautiful sun and the temperatures are going to be above freezing! The snow is melting fast and they already have flooding issues in some areas!

Now, there will be a fight between different medias on how horrible to describe the new situation, as if more dramatic they go, people pay more attention to their paper or channel!... ;)

Ah, you got the zoom out Louis, nice. What "end" of the zoom was it, any idea? One of the advantages I suppose of the T zoom, exif data.

Gary

Yep! I went for a walk and I had to have a zoom to see what I could get! But this damn Nikkor zoom is a monster and so heavy in this kind of weather! :)

Here are a few more from my walk; but first, just one with 50 mm of my daughter on the balcony capturing ze "Event" with her IPhone! ;)

Couple of images taken at Peterborough Astronomical Society's recent stargazing trip to a local dark-sky site using Leica T, 23mm T and SF24D red filtered flash. Camera set to Aperture Priority (f2), Auto ISO (but 1600 Max) , -2EV Exposure Compensation, -2 EV Flash Exp, Compensation, and B&W jpg. Underexposure red filtered flash settings to minimise flash output thus not compromising astronomers' night vision. Underexposure corrected in PP. Technique is still at experimental stage with the Leica T but have previously used same 'red flash' method with Leica X1, X2 and XV .

When set to Auto ISO the camera always chooses the highest possible ISO setting - thus was limited to ISO 1600 to avoid higher settings and too noticeable grain. Using the red flash technique, the optimum settings have not yet been established for the T; next time will use slightly smaller aperture.

The Sky-Watcher 'scope 14" 'GO TO' Dobsonian is a colleague's new acquisition. Newtonian 'Dobsonian' telescopes do not require a separate tripod and mount; the 'scope support and mount is already built into the design. The base is a very efficient but motorised 'lazy Susan' which provides the 'azimuth' movement; the motorised 'altitude' movement (as the 'scope swings up and down) is usually provided by simple Teflon bearings. Once aligned and set up, the 'scope will automatically 'GO TO' (slew) to any of the thousands of pre-programmed astro phenomena selected via its handset control. The 'scope is easily transported; it collapses and dismantles into a package which fits into a small car; assembly takes approx 10 minutes. Optimum telescope imaging can only be achieved when the 'scope's primary mirror has acclimated i.e. reached thermal equilibrium. Primary mirror acclimation, i.e. time taken for the mirror to reach ambient air temperature, takes up to one hour.

Best wishes
