Dsauro Posted September 27, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok. quick poll.. Assuming cost is not a factor... ...what would your prefer. The 75 1.25 noctilux or the 90 1.5 summilux? I have looked at reviews and videos of both. Both are scrumptious in rendering, and the “Pop” of the subject from the 75 is stunning Has anyone purchased one or the other after considering both ? I’ve always favored the 90 perspective view, but looking at the 75 has me rethinking ?
Advertisement Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Hi Dsauro, Take a look here 75 noctilux vs 90 “noctilux”. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Herr Barnack Posted September 27, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2020 My choice would be the 75mm Noctlux. Both lenses have otherworldly renderings when shot wide open, but I can't stop looking at the images that the 75 Noctilux produces. The weight of both lenses is close - 2.3 lb. for the 75mm vs. 2.22 lb. for the 90mm. I think the 75 Noctilux would be a bit easier to work with hand held; I have not scrutinized the data sheets for each lens but it seem to me that at maximum aperture, the 75mm would be a bit easier to nail focus when using the rangefinder mechanism. Both lenses use 67mm filters, so lens diameter is the same. If cost is not an issue, then the choice seems to me to come down to this: Which fingerprint do you like the best? The 75mm Noctilux? Or the 90mm Summilux?
Dsauro Posted September 27, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted September 27, 2020 I have to admit, I am completely enchanted with the images I have seen with the 75. Now I need the tariffs to ease !
darylgo Posted September 27, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2020 Count me in for the 75, it’s faster and slightly less magnification, handheld it will be advantageous for both these factors. Tamarkin had one used at $9500 a few months back. Technically and artistically it is very compelling, physically it is hard on my hands.
sarav Posted September 27, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2020 I've considered both of them and I chose 75 because of the focal length; I use it more often. I havent considered image rendering because I thought, wrongly or not, they were almost alike.
Herr Barnack Posted September 27, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 27, 2020 @sarav, the renderings are similar - but different to my eye. No matter though - with a price tag of $14,095 American, it's going to have to rain diamonds at my house before I'm able to afford one.

luigi bertolotti Posted September 27, 2020 Share #8 Posted September 27, 2020 COMPLETELY in theory (i'll never buy one - and have a Summarex... 😎) ... I'd choose the 75 just because 1,25 is more impressive... 😆

Fedro Posted September 28, 2020 Share #11 Posted September 28, 2020 the 75 is a fantastic lens, have not tried the 90 but assuming that the look is similar, I would favour a wider aperture and closer focus (i.e. the 75)

Have used it as a walk-around lens on the M10.
mdg1371 Posted September 30, 2020 Share #13 Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) SL2, 75mm Noct, wide open. I will say, the 75 Noct is much better on the SL2 than on my M10-P, at least wide open and close. I think the 75 Noct is really pushing the envelope of that the RF can handle, Ive experienced situations where turning the focus ring just an infinitesimal amount, so little that the RF patch shows no change, still results in a clear difference in the image. Dsauro Posted October 1, 2020 Author Share #14 Posted October 1, 2020 Thank you MDG 1371. Curious if you have used the Visoflex on your M10 given your comment regarding the SL2 EVF vs RF and the focus challenges?

I do, and it is functional and reliable with the Noct— But I do think the higher resolution of the SL2 yields better results in fine tuning focus.
