A digital M that can use the DR would be nice

Since 2017, my M10 can use SOMNI (Cron DR) full range to infinity , with sort of small "management" with some DR though.

M10 at left can focus to infinity without modifying the DR

M (typ 262) focus possible only to 10m with non-modified DR.

...

if not the "SOMKY + UOORF" path is a better way yet to use the nice optical cell of Summicron

Crikey! That's quite comprehensive! I only wish I could understand Italian!

I must have a better look at that when I have more time to spare; some stunning pieces of equipment on show. Thanks for posting, romanus!

Philip.

luckily google offered to translate this for me!

Pierpalol Ghisetti and Marco Cavina wrote a book for Elmars and another for Summicrons (Foto Camera, Milan 2015) that have much of the above info, with text in both Italian and English

I've recently come across a near mint rigid v2 (only one light mark on the body, otherwise perfect), wonder if it is worth it for 1.9k USD?

I currently use the lux asph and thought it would be a nice addition for that gentler look. What do you guys think? (or alternatively I can get a noctilux 0.95 for a decent price but I personally think that lens is too bulky to be carried around and I am afraid it will be left on the shelf gathering dust).

Summicron rigid is a fantastic lens but mint or not, $1900 is a bit steep IMO.

I just sold mine because I liked my collapsible Elmar better and it wasn’t getting touched.

right, but these lenses are so sought after these days for some reason. All good copies are around that price range.

Understood, but for that price I’d buy a v5, which is better than the v2 in every way performance wise, IMO.

I've seen some Rigids in the $1,000 - $1,200 range advertised with some cosmetics issues that don't concern me but many mention "slight haze".  Some cleaning marks and dust don't concern me but haze does.  Is it possible to have the haze removed if it's more than slight?  If so, is it something that either DAG or YYE do, and what would be the approximate cost?

Thanks in advance.

Ray

It think it depends on the cause and duration of the haze. Usually if it is merely outgassing of lubricants. In my experience, it can be cleaned, but if it is caused by airborne chemical contaminents which might alter coatings or the glass elements themselves, it may not be possible to completely clean the lens.

"Better" is subjective.  My version 5 gave way to my Rigid because I prefer the pictures.  The handling and the look of the lens are just additional bonuses for me.

I'm still on a '52 collapsible and have no desire to "upgrade". Have been for 8 years.

A lovely lens very malleable images. It's in mint optical condition, and been CLA'd. Just looks funny i suppose...being collapsible 'n' all.

So if i have some dosh, what would be the advantages of a more recent 50mm?

Hence the IMO = In My Opinion
