Einst_Stein Posted August 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I removed all redundant from my CL bag. Now only things left are CL, 12-23, 18-56, 55-135, and a 50mm enlarger lens withhelicoid. 18-56 has a polarizer. Also a Leica minipod (for selphy) and spare batteries. This will be the self-contained complete maximum set whencarrying CL. No flash, no other filter, The primres (24,35,50, ) all went back to the M 240 mama. I do not feel missing them at all for CL. I might remove 55-135mm, ...,Nay! Want to keep it.

jaapv Posted August 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 14, 2020 With me it depends on the subjects I plan to shoot.
Guest Posted August 14, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 14, 2020 I don't mind to have some choice. But I almost always leave the house with just a single lens (which varies, depending on my plans).
lct Posted August 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 14, 2020 Mostly 21/35/50 M lenses or MATE in a tiny combi case for film CL plus a macro-adapter-m and a sl 26 flash in the pockets if needed.
geoffreyg Posted August 15, 2020 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2020 18-56, 55-135, 23. Might throw in a Voigtlander 15, but that’s it. Fits in nice small bag, ready to go.
bags27 Posted August 15, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 15, 2020 I sold the 18-56 for a price I couldn't pass up. And I never really bonded with the lens, but now I sort of regret it. I won't buy it back because it would cost more and because that's admitting I made a mistake in the first place. 😀 But the new Panasonic 20-60 full frame (the first person to test it compared it favorably to his 18-56) is about 1/3 the price of the 18-56. So, I could see that, with the 11-23 and the 55-135 in a bag. But only if I were carrying something fast as well, like my M10 with the 50 Lux. DirkS Posted August 15, 2020 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I prefer 11-23 Leica and the 24-105 Panasonic (Standard-Zoom for the 48 MPix FF Pana S1R with OIS). The 11-23 is on the CL, the 24-105 in a camera bag. So I can take the range of (FF) 18 - 155 with only two lenses. One day I`ll add the Sigma 100-400 to achieve the range of (FF) 18 - 600 mm with 3 lenses. Edited August 15, 2020 by DirkS
ramarren Posted August 17, 2020 Share #8 Posted August 17, 2020 My shooting carry (a PD Everyday Sling 5L v1) always has the CL maximum pieces-minimum size kit in it by default: Leica CL fitted with M Adapter L Summilux 35mm f/1.4 v2 (circa 1972) Voigtländer HyperWide 10mm f/5.6 Color Skopar 28mm f/3.5 Peak Design Leash Spare battery Jason Cui half-case Sometimes I switch the 35 for a Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Special or Summicron-M 50mm f/2. Other times I swap the entire kit out to concentrate on R lenses. G
jaapv Posted August 17, 2020 Share #9 Posted August 17, 2020 As I said, the kit is adapted to the anticipated use. But the 18-56 is the mainstay that is always present.
Viv Posted August 17, 2020 Share #10 Posted August 17, 2020 I have just The 23. Should I add the 18-56?

You will be living the L-mount alliance dream : 1 Leica + 1 Panasonic + 1 Sigma. 16.5mm to 600mm is quite nice. Maybe add Sigma 2x teleconverter to reach 1200mm. Or just 1.4x for a more reasonable 840mm.

Gadfly21 Posted August 18, 2020 Share #13 Posted August 18, 2020 I don't know how much it really matters. The M I own is better in almost every single way. I know that sounds elitist. To me, the only thing the CL really offers is lower weight, close-focus, and zoom. Therefore the only kit that really interests me is 11-23 vario, 18 pancake, & 55-135 vario. I have an L-M adapter just "in case". Funnily enough, the adapter feels more solid than the 18. On top of that, the "metal" top dials have plastic internals/mechanical actuation with a thin veneer of metal to fool the touch. At least the CL is a third the price of an M. Yeah, I'm a grouch

Many contributors to this APS-C subforum have used M cameras for years/decades and still prefer the CL (or TL or...) for various reasons including the ones you mentioned. What is "better" is just a matter of needs and preferences.
Viv Posted August 18, 2020 Share #15 Posted August 18, 2020 An apple and an orange are both fruits. But their taste and characteristics are very different. So it is with the CL and the M. It cannot be said that one is better than the other.

Whether one is built for a century and the other for a couple of decades is quite irrelevant, even if it were true.
LocalHero1953 Posted August 18, 2020 Share #17 Posted August 18, 2020 It's been the M series that have had the design and manufacturing problems over the years, not CL, TL or SL that I recall. Thinking of IR sensitivity (M8), sensor corrosión (M9), strap lugs and freezing (M240), ISO dial failure (M10). Just saying...... as a long term M fan. 2 2
Marac Posted August 18, 2020 Share #18 Posted August 18, 2020 To be fair I quite enjoyed the IR on the M8, If I were ever to get another M it may well be an M8.
Gregm61 Posted August 19, 2020 Share #19 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) I could travel with my M262 with 21mm and 35mm primes and rarely use the 75 or 90mm lens also in the bag, but I always considered taking the 24/18mm prime set over the 21mm to have a wider option and have always liked the 24mm FOV. The 11-23mm TL is just a fantastic lens and gives me all of the those equivalent FL options (18/21/24/28/35) without the need to swap lenses. The 11-23, 35mm f1.4 and 55-135 is a hard setup to argue against, given the outstanding higher ISO performance of the CL and I've never noticed any issue with vibration-induced image blur you can get with other brands that do not offer electronic first-curtain shutter action, and the CL's raw image quality is superior to any pre-M10 color M body. The dynamic range, highlight headroom and ability to open shadows with no noise penalty far outdo any M240 variant and/or M9 model. I do find it interesting, the M240/M246 I've used allow for either compressed or uncompressed raw capture. The M262 only allows compressed raw capture, and the CL only, as far as I have seen, only allows uncompressed raw capture. Einst_Stein Posted August 23, 2020 Author Share #20 Posted August 23, 2020 (edited) With the three zooms, I constantly want a fast prime, most likely 23mm/f1.4, but it just has never happened that such a lens is required. Of course, I might have missed some nicer shots without knowing it. Edited August 23, 2020 by Einst_Stein
