Hello community, I just received my Q2 today, I enjoy carefully and ceremoniously opening the box; as always, Leica did a nice job with the packaging and the presentation.

I was checking the camera and unfortunately, I found 2 disappointing problems, the first, easy to spot is that the red dot logo is askew, very askew; the second problem is a greyish area in the top of the camera beside the mic holes, is like there is a lack of black paint in a small area. I attach pictures of both issues.

Did someone experienced those kind of problems?

Is possible that this so evident details skip the quality controls of Leica?

This is really disappointing.

I received my Q2 last week - from Mirgain & Huberty in Luxembourg.. I have no complaints regarding inadequate quality control.

Everything works and the camera is cosmetically perfect.

Poor QC is a recurrent complaint since the eighties, dont ask me why. My T-E 90/2.8 looked like this when i bought it in 1981... Only Leica can fix the issue anyway.

Not really poor quality control, but the difference between robots and humans. Robots make consistent errors, so you only have to pull 1 in 1000 off the line and pull it to pieces to know what is wrong with the series. Humans make random errors and would need to  have everything they make  or inspect tested, so it would need an inspector behind every worker and who would inspect the inspectors? So in a hand-assembled process errors fall through the cracks occasionally.

BTW, why don't you stick that red dot on straight yourself? Wiggle it off and push back in the correct position..

To put things into perspective, I once bought a 75mm f/2.8 lens for the Pentax 67 system that had a fly melted into the front lens element.

Ah...the legendary Jeff Goldblum limited edition!

Leica told me the red dot is not a big problem, I know I can reposition it, just not expecting the camera coming with deffects.

The lack of paint in the top cover worried more the Leica technician, he suggested to send the camera to the dealer for a replacement.

The matter here is that we are paying a lot of money for this toy and I was expecting a perfect machine inside and outside, is just disappointing.

Lets see what the dealer suggests.

Someone is supposed to check those things before aproving it to packaging and shipping no?... Amazing.

So what did Leica say when you contacted them to complain? Because that is much more likely to sort out your problem than complaining here.

They said the red dot is not a big deal, the lack of peinting is more serious problem, but just aesthetic... They suggested a replacement from the dealer.

I wondered for long if Leica appointed students to do the QC :D. Still not sure how it works...

I doubt either issue will cause any problems down the road (might affect resale value a little), but I found comments not helpful.

Interesting comments.  If Leica is truly a brand that we love, we should hold them to a higher standard, both in customer service and quality control.  Should definitely notify Leica and if possible, get some kind of recourse to get it fixed, and help Leica improve their QC process.

It is hard to see the missing pissing from the picture, but how did they miss the misaligned logo?  It suggests that not just two people (one put it on, the other inspector) missed it, all the subsequent Leica workers missed it too.

The 2 Leica Q2’s I ordered both had quality control issues as well. The first one has a defective IOS the second had dust inside the viewfinder. I’m surprised they are still having issues. What date was on your box?

The date is 2020/03/09... Amazing, is incredible that they can go out with issues...

As you said, clearly the lack of black paint in the top cover lower the resale value, and I'm paying for a perfect product.

The dealer is perfectly addressing the problem, I suppose we will have news from Leica next week. Anyway is quite sad to know and see this lack of real quality control.

Mine were from 2019 I don’t remember the dates, what I found ironic is that the camera came with a certificate in the box from the technician who checked it, I guess he never looked through the viewfinder before putting in the box... lol

Bought a Q in 2015 then a Q2 last year. Zero problems with either camera except what I caused with my own carelessness. Leica should be held to a very high standard. We pay a premium for the brand. Hopefully they remedy the defects quickly.
