I wouldn’t be surprised in the future if the next generation (M11), will come in one 24MP high ISO variant and one 41MP high resolution variant. In fact I believe that M11 will be:

*64bit processor (so a larger buffer can be supported)

*At least 4-8GB RAM (8-16 would be even better)

*New generation clip on EVF with higher resolution and faster FPS.

*Same Body size as of today

*Same size Touch Screen but with higher resolution

*New and more powerful battery

*Built in WiFi

*Maybe built in wireless flash support (I wish...)

*a new 24MP high ISO variant sensor

*same 41MP sensor as M10-R for M11-R

*No IBIS (honestly, there is absolutely no room for it today or in the near future)

*OVF and mechanical rangefinder

So basically a M10 on steroids. The M10 is a fantastic camera and a marvel to use! There are always room for improvements, but I’d much prefer them to be incremental than a complete new concept. For EVF/IBIS etc, there is always the SL line which is a different camera of course, but also a fantastic piece of equipment! For me, the M10 is close to perfect and only needs some new “features”. And I think that both the industry and the user base could benefit from longer product cycles.

@Raid, only M10 silver and M10-D have been discontinued of the M10 family.
So there are still M10 black, M10-P silver, black, (and some green) available, all using the 24 MP sensor.

No, the silver M10 was discontinued a while back, but the M10 and M10D were recently discontinued altogether.

Stefan Daniel apparently agrees with at least some of this.

This was posted oh Red Dot forum although its odd that there has been no mention (that I can find ) here .

https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2020/07/leica-m10-p-price-reduced-m10-m10-d-discontinued/

I started this discussion a week ago, and other threads have also noted the announcement.

As always, reddotforum only has information from second or third hand - not particularly serious for me.
But it's not worth arguing, because of course the production of the M10 will soon be discontinued, everything new will replace the old.

David Farkas, publisher of the forum, also owns Leica Miami, a major M10 dealer with close Leica contacts. I think it’s better than second or third hand gossip.

In general Leica insured about 10 years of post-production service for digital M.
Take a look at the M9, on which Leica has just stopped changing defective sensors because spare parts are missing.

Stefan Daniel said at a presentation of the new M10-R, that Leica is now calculating what might be better for customers (and of course for Leica), to offer an upgrade for the M10 with the new 40 MP sensor or selling the M10 and buying a new M10-R.

The M-E is 5-years old and no longer serviceable. (sensor-wise).

Behind "Mr. M" Stefan Daniel every Leica dealer is only in the 2nd row.
But the interview, held by our administrator Andreas Jürgensen, which has been pointed out here several times and to which I am essentially referring, should be heard first for yourself.

Actually third row. The Leica owned boutiques would be second row. 😃

I believe it’s 8 years old.

Correct, but many people bought it new after that.

What would happen if Leica told the possible customers: "Please remember in 5 years this camera will be a paper-weight, but then we can trade it in for a new one if you pay 90% retail price of the model of your choosing."

Well, Dr. Kaufmann is #1 in my book, so Stefan is already second hand. 🙄 David has close Leica contacts and doesn’t use the words “officially discontinued” loosely. So unless Stefan makes the announcement, I guess you remain a skeptic. Thanks, but I’ll trust that the information is accurate.  In any event, supplies still exist until gone, as usual.

They have double or triple the warranty of other cameras. That’s all that can be expected.

And they don’t always hold you to the warranty.

That is very true. There are many posts here and elsewhere that Leica has repaired cameras out of warranty gratis.

With the M10-P still in production,  and with the M10-R based on the M10-P (different sensor etc obviously), it is difficult to imagine there will be any issues with servicing the M10 for some considerable time.

The point remains the same.

I doubt many would spend 6000 USD for a camera body if they knew in advance it might die in 5 years and unable to be repaired, but I assume there are many Leica die-hard followers who simply will buy a new body. Not me at least.

Clearly Leica's aren't for everyone. No problem with that, there are plenty of other options. For those of us happy with the risks - that should be ok with you too.
