evikne Posted July 5, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) When I've read a post in the forum's "Unread Content" activity stream and returned to the stream, the thread I just read used to disappear automatically, until there were new entries in the thread. I used to love this functionality, but now it's gone, at least on my Mac's Safari. It still works as intended on my iPhone and in other browsers, but I use only Safari. Now I have to manually refresh the stream every time I return, to remove read threads and load new ones. I've checked all browser extensions and I am sure it isn't any of them that cause the problem. It has probably occurred after a Safari upgrade lately. Am I the only one experiencing this? Edited July 5, 2020 by evikne
Advertisement Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Hi evikne, Take a look here Safari doesn't auto update anymore. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
happymac Posted July 5, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2020 Have you tried to delete the cookies of the forum’s site? I don’t know if this helps, just a try. If you do that, you have to sign in again
jaapv Posted July 5, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 5, 2020 Or just use another browser - Safari plays up regularly, at least on my Macs. I prefer Firefox or Chrome. More stable.

Clearing cookies didn't help but disabling either ad or content blocker fixed it until the size of the ads shifted parts of the forum off screen. I settled for the manual refresh route. evikne Posted July 5, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted July 5, 2020 I have tried to delete cookies and "everyting else" as you can read here on the Apple support forum: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251440326 Maybe I have to change browser, but I have always used Safari, and I like the way it responds when scrolling etc. Thank you @Siriusone59. I was just going to ask if Safari was behaving the same way for other forum members as well. If not, I should keep searching for the error.
stephen.w Posted July 5, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 5, 2020 What OS are you running? I think that Sierra and older don't autoupdate anymore.

Siriusone59 Posted July 5, 2020 Share #8 Posted July 5, 2020 Went back and tried again on my mac, it's running Catalina V 10.15.5 with Safari V 13.1.1 If I go under safari>prefs>websites> content blockers> I-camera-forum and turn it "off", everything that has been read will update like it did before the big OS and Safari rollout. Only problem is when a large banner ad appears along the top, it will blow the Themen off the screen requiring me to drag the screen horizontally. To me, that is not a fix for the issue because it previously worked with the content blocker "on" and no interference from the ads.

I'm using Mojave and have not upgraded to Apple's Catalina. Rob Edited July 5, 2020 by ropo54
evikne Posted July 5, 2020 Author Share #10 Posted July 5, 2020 I tried now on someone else's Mac and logged in to the forum. It acted just like mine: I had to manually refresh the stream every time I returned to it. So I give up searching for a solution, It seems like this is just how Safari works now. I hope it will change in a future update.
Bobitybob Posted July 9, 2020 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2020 Try following the content that you particularly wish to see, rather than all new activity as that seems to work in the way you want, or at least it does on my Mac running Catalina and using Safari. This is the way I normally access new content and I've never had a problem with it not marking the forums I access as read and removing them from the list.
