nicci78 Posted June 18, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did Sigma, just confirmed that TL2 is not a current camera anymore ? We kind of already knew it, through the lack of firmware update since late 2018. Just look at the family pictures of current L-mount products : lots of lenses from Leica SL & TL ; Lumix S & Sigma DG 6 cameras : Lumix S1 & S1R & S1H ; Sigma fp ; Leica SL2 & CL But no TL2. It is quite logical, due to the lack of the much necessary firmware update to fully use L-mount lenses with TL2. Welcome, dear visitor! nicci78 Posted June 18, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted June 18, 2020 I guess that we do not have to wait for TL3 neither. It will be CL2 only, hopefully for the best. Can't wait to see how good can be the next APS-C for Leica. Especially with all R&D focused in only one camera. Instead of the typical twin line up : X/X Vario & T/TL -> TL2 & CL
nicci78 Posted June 18, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) Very subtle indeed. And I am pretty sure that the picture came from Leica. Just look how every Leica products are showcased right in the middle. SL2 looks like the king of the hill Edited June 18, 2020 by nicci78
oldwino Posted June 18, 2020 Share #5 Posted June 18, 2020 I wish Leica would come out with a CL2-P that was full frame, but lacked video. But I think Panasonic might beat them to that. RIP TL2...

HuntingSand Posted June 18, 2020 Share #8 Posted June 18, 2020 Focusing not on what is absent, but was it present, it would appear from this group photo that the L mount by now has quite a large number of offspring. Whether it survives as a whole is another question altogether.

Leica even made a fancy APS-C brochure to present the 2 siblings.
FrozenInTime Posted June 18, 2020 Share #10 Posted June 18, 2020 Does the picture also infer that neither the TL2 or the SL will receive firmware support for new lenses ?
Guest Posted June 19, 2020 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2020 The average lens on this picture is HUGE. I am so happy I can use M lenses on my CL with great results.

SL got the firmware update in February 2020. And I think that it will continue to be supported, as long as CL and original Q are Support only drop for TL2 : left alone since September 2018 I think that the picture shows what is « current » in the line up of L-mount. It is a bit silly to link the two.
nicci78 Posted June 19, 2020 Author Share #14 Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) it is indeed needed in the case of TL2. To ensure full compatibility with specific functions of Sigma's and Panasonic's L-mount lenses. Such as aperture ring, push-pull manual focusing ring, manual focusing ring setup, additional buttons, etc... CL and SL got the required updates in 2019, then again in 2020. But T, TL & TL2 not, making them second class L-mount camera. Just fully compatible with Leica TL/SL lenses only. nicci78 Posted June 19, 2020 Author Share #15 Posted June 19, 2020 This is what is missing to T TL & TL2 cameras to be compatible with L-mount lenses from Panasonic and Sigma. CL got 3 firmware updates. And they are required for such compatibility. CL V2.2 in April 2019 CL V3.1 in July 2019 CL V3.2 in February 2020 Please read the update notes. TL2 got none of these. nicci78 Posted June 19, 2020 Author Share #17 Posted June 19, 2020 SL also got several firmware updates related to L-mount compatibility SL V3.5 in March 2019 SL V3.6 in August 2019 SL V3.7 in February 2020 Welcome, dear visitor! nicci78 Posted June 19, 2020 Author Share #19 Posted June 19, 2020 Of course you can still believe that TL2 is still on life support in Leica product management mind. But it seems to me that they already pull the plug at the end of 2018. Zero firmware update for the T/TL/TL2 against three for CL/SL is huge clue. nicci78 Posted June 19, 2020 Author Share #20 Posted June 19, 2020 In the meantime (since end of 2018 until today Those cameras received : Q : 1 update V3.1 in February 2019 Q2 : 2 updates V1.1 in August 2019 + V2.0 in February 2020 M10 : 1 update V2.7.5.0 in September 2019 M typ 240 : 1 update V 2.0.6.0 in October 2019 S cameras received zero updates.
