I'm wondering if someone out knows if the nylon anti-slip strap included in most Leica M boxes goes all the way from side to side or if the nylon strap itself ends when it meets the anti-slip shoulder pad, in terms of use I really like this strap, its super easy to put and remove from the camera and does not need any "breaking in" time to feel comfortable, not the prettiest but its really becoming my favorite.

I'm not sure what your question is? If you use the strap, why can't you check for yourself 🤔

Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

I think that without cutting the strap, you would never know.

Why bother ?

Myself as user of those straps since decades, I've never ask myself 🙃.

I've never managed to break one ...

Minutes ago, I had a look at one with the rubber borders a bit used (after number of years of hard time), to see that

the nylon strap is bonded in two layers of rubber.

Just use it, it's as tough as can be.

Older model same order number 14312 has this separations, we can slide the rubber pad on the strap nylon

I use the one supplied with my M240. On more than one occasion the D connection to the camera eyelet has worked itself loose, always the same side and it’s the metallic spring working it’s way out of the plastic lock.

Also use the same designed strap on my M6 (I’m the ‘n’ th owner but I assume the strap is the original supplied), had no problem with this.

Just mention as a caution.

For whatever reason the plastic lock on my strap managed to slide back and the metal ring manage to find a way off the body mount, and camera  that was around my neck. fell to the cobblestone. Luckily minimal damage.

I have since sewn a thread above the plastic retainer to guarantee it will not slip back.

I’ve been thinking of doing similar for some time now, just too damn lazy I guess. Will kick my backside into gear in the morning.

After catching my M-E twice on its way down I replaced those "german engineered" junk, with generic rings.

This strap differs from the other straps/rings that so many times, the users don't read the manual (on the box for later model),

how to attach properly to fasten it tight.

seen in this short thread for some troubles ( not really the strap but user's ! )

the last figure is the most important not to loose the fit or gear attached

...

As we are talking about the long life of those Leitz/Leica straps ...

Older strap model has other type of "rings", and obviously nylon strap differed from later model,

as seen here and how to attach properly the strap without "brassing" the M

How true, RTFM.

Yes I’m aware of the fitting guide, just saying the plastic sleeve can work upwards, even if fitted properly. The consequence can be expensive I imagine.
When I first encountered the design I always considered it not to be fault tolerant, the fault being the loose-ish fit over the metal D ring, even when pushed down as described in the fitting instructions.
solution is to sew thread lexontario mentioned, or replace with a regular split O ring. Or take your chances.

The strip goes through the shoulder pad. You can cut the pad carefully away if it bothers You. Then You have a plain nylon strap. I did it.

Thank you, I’ll probably leave it on place but now I know the strap will hold my gear properly, I’ve kids at home that love to put some pressure on my camera straps and I’m always afraid they may come apart while carrying the camera

Yes, a few years ago it was quite common for people to cut off the shoulder pad bit. I agree with you, the woven part of the strap is really nice.
