Does anyone recognise this lens? Seems to be quite wide and focus closer than a regular M mount lens.

Me too, judging from OOF and width, think of a 50mm 1,4 wide open or next to... clearly not Leica... and not a modern CV, I'd say... I'm not an expert on classic Japanes RF lenses... the Canon 1,4 (just checked some items on ebay) seems to have a  longer white writing on the front ring (but in the pic the writing could be partially not illuminated) , and same applies to the Nikkor 50 1,4... the Knoica/Hexanon writing had a very typical font and I think it ought to be well recognizable... oh well, I think the only way colud be to search VERY patiently for pics of Leicas with similar lenses mounted... 🙄

I think that's a photo by someone in the front seat of someone in the back seat otherwise the wing mirror angles are wrong plus the man with the camera isn't looking through the viewfinder.  It's not a picture taken by the person holding the camera so there's no way to tell if it's wide-angle or focuses closer than a regular M mount lens.

The diaphragm looks to be stopped down to about f/5.6 and there looks to be a silver ring around the filter thread so it's likely to be a Voigtlander or a Zeiss.

Pete.

I think you guys are right about it being a 50mm. I just tried shooting my 35mm from the same position as him and his frame is tighter.

I think the Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM is a pretty close match although not 100% because his has a black outline around the silver, whereas when you look at full frontal of this lens there isn't one because the black focus barrel is obscured by the silver aperture ring..... But perhaps he has a black rubber ring around his focus barrel to make it easier to operate.

Canon changed the design of its LTM lenses during the production  time - some are knurled ring type, later ones have a more discrete ribbed rubber grip.

My second guess would be a Pentax M42 or Olympus OM lens adapted to M.  Some of them are small enough to appear as large rangefinder lenses.

In any case, I find studying the image for too long annoying as I don't enjoy the content or the photographer's general body of work. 😂

Interesting. What is focusing through the rangefinder like using adapted glass?

And no problem. I enjoy soft images with lots of flare so his work is right up my street.
