Why must they do it

I note that some members of this and other forums list their photographic equipment as part of their signature, why? Does it make them feel better?

As someone with rather more cameras than the average camera shop I just wouldn't have time or inclination to join in such a strange ritual.. I reckon it must be a 'behind the bike shed thing' :)

Agreed.

Also, it is a real pest when you use the search facility to find info on a specific piece of equipment; the posts actually dealing with that item is totally deluged by posts about everything from those clowns that have to add their inventory to all their posts....

Others wear brand labels on their clothes don't they.

Even heard that some people stick black tape on their cams to make believe that they are pro photographers.

Funny old world isn't it?

:p;)

Annie,

"...feel better"? I think 'superior' fits closer. Then again, perhaps they view it as their passport to posting on the Leica forum.

I was going to say its part of the "Mine is bigger than yours" syndrome, but thought better of it.

come on folks!

I think you are being a bit harsh. Look at the threads, at least 2 thirds of all posts are equipment related, 'which lens is better than which?' 'look what I just bought!' etc etc.

I find it pretty dull, but hey! thats what a lot of people come here for...

I did it, sometimes. It`s not the way to show what I have but to clear something with regard to experience and competence.

From my ponit of view this never shall be a matter of boasting with my equipment but it may avoid certain questions.

This signature is the childish consequence of those who think really:

"You are what you own"

One of the consequences of capitalism without any limits.

What Ron said directly above. It is common on equipment related forums, whether they are about cars, boats, cameras or anything else to list what you have/use. That's useful information for other forum members to know. No need to be condescending about it.
