I found this new nice lightmeter from Ebay. It costs only 50€ and it's all metal and works great. I usually use my M4 without meter but it's nice to keep in pocket. I know it's digital and not as "cool" but it fits perfectly to Leica. Built in battery, charged by microusb.

I can recommend myLightMeter app. How much smaller could it be?

With the M2 I got great results and you can also do spot metering. That allows for average calculations in shadow and highlight areas or applying Ansel Adams zone system.

I've been using the Reveni Labs 3D printed meter for the last several months. It's quite accurate and works fine for my needs. If I need more capability, I have a Sekonic 308u.

My Sekonic L208 died, just stopped working, I replaced the battery with a couple new ones still dead. Just over a year old and I figured a repair would cost as much as a new one. So bought another, really stopped and thought about a service contract, but didn't do it. I like to havethe meter separated from the camera if the meter isn't integrated with the camera. I have an old Leica meter but haven't had the electronic updated for a new 2021 battery.

+1 on both using the 208 and an old Leica meter: mine was working, but I dropped it and no longer.

Or a selection of small, a bit larger than small and a smaller medium:
