While we’re all staying inside and practicing social distancing, I finally was able to finish up my review of this little pocket monster. It’s one on the best lenses for the C-Biogon and I dont think it needs an introduction.

Hopefully I can distract you from the mundane life of staying inside, but it may cause some itchy fingers to go out and shoot!

Thank you for sharing. It was good to read about something I own and love it. Super compact, super sharp, good enough design.

Only two things I don't like about this lens. First, it rattles, it looks like is falling 😂, but it's not. I bought it used. It's more like a little stress and the fact that is not perfect 😅 But it doesn't affect at all the image quality. So I can live with it. Once i'll have chance, I'll repair it. Hope I can fix it.

About the second thing, I don't like it at all. The focus tab/nub. I would have prefer no tab at all (so I can do something), or a big focus tab. I'm still looking for how to make one DYI. Any tip?

Great review of my favorite 35 and since 35 is my favorite focal length, I guess the 35f2.8 C Biogon is my favorite M mount lens out of the 7 I own.  Since the Zeiss lenses do not come with hoods and the Zeiss hoods are expensive, save yourself some $$$$ and buy the Voigtlander models.

Mine doesn't rattle. The focus tab is eminently practical for focus stacking.

IMO, when it's big/standard like the 35 Summarit to say one, it's easier to focus. When there is not tab or nub at all, you can always purchase the lens TAAB or make some DIY something. But when it's that small and you have big hands, it gets in the way more than it helps.

Dear CosmoM3, as far as I can see, you have used 35mm Summilux ASPH and FLE. If you can compare, what are your thoughts? Thanks.

I enjoyed the review, thanks.

Can I point out one thing?

The lens is not aspherical, like you state in the review: the rear element is an anomalous partial dispersion glass one, not aspherical. You may want to correct that!

Cheers

+1. Not sure i would say that the ZM 35/2.8 is "technically sharper" than both Leica 35/2 asph and CV 35/2 either. Those three lenses are sharp indeed but at the same apertures i'm not sure the Biogon is the winner, as far as acutance is concerned at least. Macro contrast is another story but it is not necessarily an advantage for digital shooters. Would be fair to say that the ZM 35/2.8 vignettes a bit too but at the same apertures its OoF rendering looks smoother to me. Subjective matter though. Great lens anyway, my favorite M 35 in good light when i want sharp results. Great review too :).

Sean Reid did a pretty exhaustive comparison of the 35 Summicron ASPH, ZM 35C and IIRC, the 2,5/35 CV. For shear resolution, the Zeiss was the clear winner. And not by a small margin. Resolution is of course only part of the package, the rest being a matter of taste. I've never used the CV 2/35 but I really liked the Leica @ ƒ/2; something special about the look.

I have nothing against Sean Reid but i would be surprised if he states that the Summicron 35/2 asph has less resolution, unless he was using an high rez sensor and even then i would probably rest my case but anyway the Biogon is the 35mm M lens i use the most when i don't need f/2 for anything else than portraiture. At f/2 the little Ultron looks at least as sharp as the Summicron but its OoF rendition is significantly sharper so the Summicron remains my favorite M 35 at f/2. I agree that this is subjective though and i prefer the Ultron on the digital CL due to its smaller size.
