a.wittgenstein Posted February 27, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, I just want to ask you... It is better an used M-P TYP 240 or a M 262? (with M-P typ 240 10% cheaper and both in very good condition, less than 1000 shutter releases). Thanks for helping me
Advertisement Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Hi a.wittgenstein, Take a look here Used M-P TYP 240 or M 262?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Shu Posted February 27, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2020 Unless you're absolutely sure you don't want live view, go with the M-P.
a.noctilux Posted February 27, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 27, 2020 Some more "features" differences : - M-P has frame lines lever selection, not on M262 - Red Dot logo on M262, big screw on M-P - Nice "end cut out", for me esthetically balanced on M262, flat top on M-P - if weighting about 100g less can count = for me depending on which lens is used, heavy lens ( as Noctilux, Summilux) balancing is better on heavier M-P, light lens is more suitable on M262 Anyway, each one can give nice results in photos, I think this is the most important at the end. a.wittgenstein Posted February 27, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted February 27, 2020 Thank you very much guys. Well, I like more the "end cut out" of the M262 and Live View is not that important. a.noctilux, how do you select frame lines on the 262, just attaching a lens? Thanks
a.noctilux Posted February 27, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) The lens frame lines are automatically selected by the M 262. 😉 As all long time users know the trick , since I have the first batch of M3 without 'lever', I tried with succes the trick : first push on the lens release button (when the 50mm lens is mounted ), turn with care the lens mounted, slowly, one side is the 90mm (new M = 28/90 frames ), turning the other side shows 135mm ( 35/135 frames on modern M 262 ) Have fun with the M262 ... I forgot to write that the LED illuminated time-out of M 262 can make a bit trickier "my trick" above. Edited February 27, 2020 by a.noctilux
a.wittgenstein Posted February 27, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks you very much That was my doubt Any experience with LV of the 240? I was just wondering if it is fluid.... Edited February 27, 2020 by a.wittgenstein
a.noctilux Posted February 27, 2020 Share #8 Posted February 27, 2020 LV is usable on M240 depending on the actions, but when shutter releasing, some time parallax is there, more or less. Seconds of black-out after the picture taking. Using EVF has same "flaws" as LV.
ru2far2c Posted February 29, 2020 Share #9 Posted February 29, 2020 M-P 240 live view is not the best, the blackout is PIA at times, eats batteries yet works well. Look for a visoflex they are to find these days for the 240’s happy with both of mine
northernlights Posted March 2, 2020 Share #10 Posted March 2, 2020 Mp240. Liveview allows the flexibility to shoot macro, long lenses attached via an adaptor and lenses that are not rangefinder coupled. Flexibility is important in my view.
HeathHolden Posted June 21, 2020 Share #11 Posted June 21, 2020 I bought an M262 late 2019 and love it, there are a few differences in the two models as stated in the above comments, but for me the LV and no video was no loss. Keeps it nice and simple really.
Guest Posted June 21, 2020 Share #12 Posted June 21, 2020 I have no use for live view and cannot stand EVF's which is why i went for the m262. I love it.
rpsawin Posted July 7, 2020 Share #13 Posted July 7, 2020 The good news is there is no wrong choice here. Think about your shooting style and what features matters and which do not. I just bought a M (tip 262) and am getting used to it. I like it a lot, so far, and am happy overall. While there are some options I miss (frame line selection being one) they are not a deal killer. I got over the nonsense of "the perfect camera" 25 years ago.

jumbalix Posted August 21, 2020 Share #15 Posted August 21, 2020 Hello to all, but the sensor is exactly the same between 240 and 262? Thank you
jdlaing Posted August 21, 2020 Share #16 Posted August 21, 2020 Yes. It is with the exception of no live view on 262.
UltraDan Posted August 23, 2020 Share #17 Posted August 23, 2020 I've never used liveview on any camera I've ever owned, could somebody educate me as to why you'd use this feature? thanks Dan

With exotic ( for Leica M use ) lenses or accessories like SLR lenses with adapter to M mount or whatever which can be mounted with adapter. As LV images show the sensor captured images, it's kind of WYSIWYG usable also with WA like 18/15/Wate lenses for precise framing. Macro mode is reachable easier than with traditional M systems. Only one's imagination is limiting factor 😇.

Thanks for helping me I do not know which one you bought, but I would say the most important differences for me is: M 262 pros: Looks better (even if taste is always up for debate, and people argue about it in the Leica community, I personally prefer the "stepped down" left side on the camera top) M-P 240 pros: Better camera in practical use; with 2GB buffer (instead of half on 262) and, when you need, the possibility for LV (I would not buy a camera without LV, even if I mainly use an M camera with RF-focusing in the OVF)
