High, my name is David and I'm addicted to Leica.  Ok, now that is over, but I have to say I was slightly disappointed in a detail from the M10M.  It's a detail, but that is what makes the whole Leica system so grand - the details throughout the mechanics.

I have an M10-D and that model, along with the M10-P has a brass hot shoe cover.  The M10 had a plastic hot shoe cover.  The M10M also has a plastic hot shoe cover which tells me the new Monochrom has been relegated to the level of the M10 instead of the M10-P.  I know, it's small, but I expected a brass cover.

I love the M10M and I've been shooting it for a few weeks, so I laugh that this is my only gripe (a cover, really?), but I also got a fix, and now it's perfect.

It turns out you can by an M10-P black chrome replacement hot shoe cover in brass.  So I bought two and now I have an extra should I lose on my M10-D or M10-M covers!

All is good.  I'm momentarily cured.

Yes, there is a replacement. It has the order number 14644 and costs only 38,-€🤨

If you measure the device‘s weight and compare it to a Noctilux, the Noctilux is really cheap.

Perhaps the differences between the plastic and metal covers have something to do with the much lower price you have to pay for an M10-M in the US - there must be some compensation for customers outside the US.

I don't know where you got your M10M, but I can definitely tell you my M10M came with a brass hot shoe cover, exactly the same as the M10D. You might want to check with the shop you bought it from...

Interesting, it is a reputable leica store in the US I have used for 20 years.   I'll send a note to Leica AG with my serial number and see what they say....

That would make sense.  The US has a 25% tariff now on German cameras, its not my favorite political move we've made.  That may be part of the answer.  The M10-D was well before that.  Yes, I bought two at very little cost :)

Some of your fellow Forum members say the tariff is only on lenses, not cameras. If it is on cameras, given the advertised US price of the M10M compared to Europe, Leica have soaked up the cost.

You are correct, I was being too general.   The specific Tarrif was on lenses from Germany and various components manufactured in China used in camera (batteries e.g.).  In the US, rather than raise prices 25% on all lenses, they added to cameras and lenses to spread it out more evenly.

Thanks for the correction.

Both of our M10Ms came with plastic hot shoe covers (USA models). I bought replacement M10-P hot shoe covers from Popflash Photo but I am happy with plastic ones.

Leica chose to spread the 25% US  tariff on lenses by increasing prices roughly 10% on cameras and lenses (the SL2 and Q2 were excluded.

And oddly enough, some of the new special editions (Ghost, etc.) were very close to the new costs...

My theory about lower U.S. prices resulting in plastic hot shoe covers is wrong. For my new M10-Monochrom (No. 55040xx) I paid the full European price - and it has the plastic cover...

So perhaps there are two versions around: the M10-Monocrom-M with metal hot shoe cover and the M10-Monchrom-P with the plastic version. History will tell us which version is the more frequent and which one is a rarity - and how collectors' prices will be...

Clearly plastic will be more valuable....  I will put mine back in the box and not use it at all just in case....
