Has the satellite/GPS icon disappeared? I'm expecting that to happen at some point since it seems like the GPS feature disappeared from the Fotos docs.

No, it is still works as before.

Delete your Q2 from Fotos and repair it as per the instructions.

"Leica FOTOS transfer speed
Downloading photos from the Leica Q2 to Leica FOTOS is now up to 50% faster.
(The Leica Q2 needs to be paired again with Leica FOTOS after this firmware update)"

In case anyone else is facing that problem - I tried to rename the folder and subsequently the file to the number +1 after the latest I took on the SD-card....didn't work.

The only way around it that I found so far is time consuming and annoying. Renaming the folder to the latest (in my case L107) and copying the latest file into it, did not work.

I renamed the folder back to L100 and copied the file L1000999.DNG into that folder on the SD-card. Then I removed the card from my Mac and put it into the Q2, took 2 shots and the camera created the folder L101 and the file L1010001.DNG.

I repeated these steps with the subsequently created folders until the Q2 created the folder L107. In here I copied the latest file I took, took again 1-2 shots and now the file numbers are back to where they were before the FW update.

Renaming the folder to L107 right from the start didn't work for me....

Great catch!  So glad I read this before taking loads of photos with duplicate past file names.

On my card, the folders were "1xxLEICA" and I had to rename one of the shots to L1009999.DNG to get the camera to create 101LEICA, etc.  So it looks like the first 3 digits correspond to the Folder number, and the rest is the photo up to 9999.  I didn't bother trying to create all the folders manually (101LEICA,102LEICA, 103LEICA, etc.) and loading them each with a L10x9999.DNG corresponding shot - wonder if that would work and it would have gone faster.

You know, this is my first experience with a level of rudeness uncommon on this forum.  The purpose here, as I understand it, is to learn, support and enjoy the Leica Q2.  This is a place of civil discussion aimed at becoming better as photographers when using a marvelously complex yet satisfying machine. I have to say that recent posts are simply making that experience less than it should be.  Let's all remember we are friends here...not here to assert our place as the smartest guy in the room.

+1. You said it very well. I come to this forum to enjoy others images; to learn from others about photography and how to get the best out of the Q / Q2; to try and help others if I have knowledge that may add to the discussion.

Good points. I find the forum to be generally helpful with many good tips on how to use the camera well - case in point: the file name reset due to this update that I may have missed.

I just gloss over the unhelpful pedantic rants as best I can.

Haven't had a ton of time to use the updated version or figure out how the changes can improve / simplify my workflow.  I really like that main screen overview though - should make some of the custom button functions less necessary.  There are some nice improvements and a few "head-scratchers", but when has Leica ever not been a little quirky.  Over all, I still really enjoy this camera as I did the wonderful Q and I think the update is quite good.

Let's relax ! 😎

Thanks Leica !

Dear Leica Customer ,

Thank you for your feedback.
After consultation with our developers this behavior with manual focus is already known.
This will be fixed with the next firmware update.
Many thanks for your understanding.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / kind regards

It’s more than an annoyance as it ruined my photo taking ability. I think it’s a bug. I took out the battery this morning & put it back in and voila the problem appears to be gone. We will see.

i know about setting on PASM or PAS. I also know how to use the thumb wheel. Hear is what was happening;  On the field focus setting, the focus box was surrounded by the red arrows or whatever and thus no matter what I did with the thumb wheel, the focus box would not move. So, I switched it to face detection. When it detected a face, perfect. But, of course, when it did not..... Then, I switched to manual focus.....

Has anyone else experienced this phenomena?

Hello,

There are two ways to get the AF Field to show up with the red arrows (which show up indicating you can change the size of the AF field between small, medium(default) and large):

  • Enable touch AF and, in live view, hold your finger to the screen instead of tap (i.e. long press, but by touching the screen). You can change the size of the field now.
  • Enable touch AF in EVF (focusing>touch af in evf>on) and touch the screen while looking through the EVF. You can move the focus field around by tapping or dragging your finger all around the frame, and change its size.

In either of the above examples, the AF field is movable.

You mentioned that a reset w/ battery removal solved the problem. Did it solve the problem in that you stopped seeing the red arrows on the field and could move the focus point? Or that you could see the red arrows and could also move the focus point?

Sounds like a hiccup. But I'm curious.

Thanks for the reply leicameech!  The battery removal and reinsertion solved the problem of seeing the red arrows on the screen and not being able to move the focus point with the thumbwheel. Prior to that, no matter what I did I could not move the focus point either with the thumbwheel or via the screen.

Hiccup?  Yes indeed. I was lucky that I am used to focusing manually with my Leica rangefinder M9.

Thx again, elopezso

Wow this is great!  I had no idea.  Did it work this way prior to the firmware update?

I've been tapping at center, getting as close as I could and would use the directional pad to position it back to perfect center.

Thanks for the tip!

I think what's new is the ability to double tap to center (or tap or drag to select the focus point) while using the EVF.  Before, you had to have the back screen turned on to use the touch gestures. Now there is an option to turn on those gestures while using the EVF, with the back screen dark.

I didn't know this either, and have also found it useful!
