So as much as I loved using the Q2 I have decided to let it go.  I had the same issue with the Q and ended up doing the same thing.  I am now using a Nikon Z7  and find it a good fit for me. I think having the fixed lens is limiting to me.  I end up taking the Z with me and not using the Q2.  I plan on visiting this forum to see all of the great images and talent to be found here.

Cheers

Stan

Congratulations on finding the camera that fits you. It would be a sad world if one model and brand were perfect for everybody. Still, your post leaves me puzzled. If you decided the Q was not for you, why did you buy a Q2? It is essentially the same camera.

I shoot and print large prints and was looking for the larger sensor size.  When the Q2 came out with the new sensor I thought that was it. I get the sensor in the Z and can use ultra wide lens for my type of work.  You are very correct one camera does not do it all, and having the Q as my vaction camera was not a good fit for me.  I have a Fuji for that.

How large are you printing?!

Can we say that the Q2 is perfectly suited for vacation, towns, landscape, street, parties. For me I would use a lens between 28mm and 50mm and in some situations even 75mm. I have over 95% of ny shots with the M10 with these focal lengths. Quite rarely I use 21mm. All other focal lengths go onto Canon 5D 4.

Sensor sizes are the same across Q, Q2, and Z. You mean higher resolution sensor. Higher resolution sensor will help with large prints. It will not help with getting you a wider angle of view since you're stuck at 28mm field of view with the Q.

The Z7 is a great image maker.  Being a Canon guy for 30 years, I had 18 months with the R and hundreds of excellent images.

But for 5 weeks in Italy last Spring, I only took the Q and used my feet to zoom.  Great results but then 13"x19" is my largest print unless going to metal or canvas.

Now a used SL replaced my Canon R and these is something special about its sensor with M glass.  Just sold all the Canon gear (kept the lenses) and bought a Panasonic S1 with Canon lens adapter.  The SL for my M lenses and AF L mount lenses -- S1 for AF L mount lenses and Canon EF lenses.

But the Q remains my travel camera and lives in the glove box of my truck for those amazing grab shots when life presents them.

Long winded comment, I'm sorry, but only YOU know what YOUR needs and likes are for photography.  Enjoy and use the Z7 well my friend!

I have a Q2, but bought a Z6 in the Christmas sale, along with a 70-200/f2.8 and 2x extender.

The Z6 is a lovely camera but fits a different purpose and if my son wants to use it (he has an M6) I'll get him an f4 24-70.

Well, for me its the size and weight of the Q that is the differentiator. Same with M against Nikon/Canon DSLRs or now MILCs. The Leicas you carry the whole day without feeling that you have the camera with you. That is absolutely great for me.

I hope you’ll come back someday. I’ve enjoyed your photos and your contributions to the forum.
I love my Q2, but I’m also looking at the new Canon EOS R 5 that’s rumored. It might satisfy my other needs when I must have serious telephoto for birds and airplanes.

Wau, @sturkel, You do not know, how I understand you with your decision. You go with Z7 as I go with my 5D Mk IV with fast 135mm and Zooms for all situations where I need that equipment. But for ME (ME) it is a rather rare even though I make about 50% of my pictures (not time) with Canon. But definitely 90% of my time I use my Leica M10 with lenses with focal lengths between 28 and 50mm. AND NOW IT COMES: Today we went into THE shop and my wife had the Q2 in her hand (me too, yes) . And she found that the Q2 was better in her hand than the CL with its standard zoom. I am thrilled as in the meantime I am fully for Q2

But to make a long story short: We still bought nothing but we are nearer than ever. And I wonder what @sturkel has to say about that. I hope that you agree that a Q2 is better than the iPhone.

I think we all go though cycles in our work and passion for what we are doing.  I tried the Z7 and loved the ultra wide 14mm for some of the work I do, yet I am not stuck with it and can change focal as and when needed.  I do love the Q2 and took many fantastic images with it.  My take is this, phones are great for casual snaps and I will admit I have sold some of my art work created with just an iphone since I create watercolor prints from my work.

A travel camera is great for travel and this is where the Q2 served me the best. I justified the cost of the camera for my other work, and so a good fit while I was also using the Nikon DF camera which I still have. In the end my travel camera ends up being a Sony RX 100 V or the Fuji x100F and sometimes both as they are so small .  Not that the Q2 size was a problem.

Along comes the Z7 which lets me use all of my Nikon glass, form factor I do like, and features I like such as focus stacking for landscape work.  So what to do with the Q2. I went thru this same isse with  the orginal Q and liked it and even had some regrets after I had sold it . Here is one of my Favorite images talken with the Q2. As you can see since this ended up being a digital work of art I could have used any camera.

In the end it is all about what works for you.

But iPhone is moving in all the time. I have an 11Pro and the output is good enough for it to function as a last-resort backup, especially bwith the wide three-lens zoom range.

Everybody need to find the camera who fit his needs like a glove.
Some love the one they have, some love other brands, some stick for their whole life with same brand, others change, some 4/3, some full frame, some mirrorless some d-srl
I started with Canon G9/10/11/16 series and liked their underwater capibilities and theri same menu and ergonomics.
But still i switched over to Panasonic LX-100 as in this time it was th best for 4K video and i could get a awesome housing for it.
When i started with d-srl i went with Nikon as i always shot Nikon, D90 - D700 - D800 and same, i liked the same ergonomics.

Leica cameras are rather "special" cameras, they have their strong teutonic root, unergonomic, old fashioned brick design, some other ergonomic quirks,
but they are still a class of it's own engineered and built. Uncomfortable but must-love like a lot of "classics" from houshold items to cars.
The combination of a Leica camera with the correct Leica lens, well, is difficult to beat and every photo i take blast me away.

My Q2 does exactly what i wanted so i bought it and i'm very happy with her, but that is my personal use i make of.

I can understand your decision. If you like ultra wide angle the Q(2) is not your camera.

The q(2) is a lovely camera with great user interface, but it is what it is. A 28mm fixed focus camera with a good ability to crop a little bit.

I just went on a trip to south africa and rather brought my CL with 11-23 2 primes and 55-135. Q2 stayed at home, as nice as it is.

In the end I agree with the OP. It really depends what works for the individual photographer.
