+1 on any views people have.

I’m a bit disappointed that there are so few tilt shift lenses out there across brands. As someone with a background in large format cameras, it’s now very hard to be satisfied with architectural images when the building isn’t perfectly “upright”. The keystone effect looks pretty sloppy compared to a precisely-done architectural photo, imho.

Combined with the S1R’s high res mode, a high performing tilt shift lens (on a native L Mount) could potentially become a very good alternative to a tech camera.

The Canon TS lenses work very well on the S1R using the Novoflex adaptor. I have the 17 and 24mm. I used them on my SL and now use them on my S1R.

Great Gordon, thanks for sharing, that was what I was hoping to hear!

I think that the updating of lens firmware by the camera is part of the L-mount specification. Ask Leica, they should be able to give you an answer.

Thank you, but past emails to Leica have gone unanswered

Visited Masada and the Dead Sea today. Find the S1R with the Leica 24-90 a great combination, heavy but not unreasonable as a walk around setup.

The 90 SL is incredible. But so is the 75 SL and the VE 90-280 SL. I have lots of them with all three lenses from this event. 😁

And now one with the long SL zoom. The lens is an absoluter stunner and as good as the Leica SL primes. The jockey in the picture is 63 years young and won one of the races today. 😀

I’m sorry if the pictures evoke such strong emotions with you. They are not meant to. You make a good point and we should always keep this in mind. Even if there are owners who treat their horses well, even if thoroughbreds are highly competitive athletes who love to run, even if jockeys suffer injuries, too, at the end of the day, the horses have no choice and are used and some are abused for profits.

BTW, I never bet at the racetracks. It absolutely doesn’t appeal to me.

Now one for the beauty of the rendering of the 75 Summicron-SL, besides the beauty of the animals, of course. Some blown Highlight in the OOF area on the saddle of the second horse. I underexposed sufficiently and exposure is adjusted here by +1.2 in post, Highlights pulled backe by -50. Still, the S1 has a tendency to do it.

Well said. At this years Grand National as the winners were celebrating with joy a Horse not far away was writhing and screaming in pain and was shot soon after. I think it should be banned.

Let's show one for mid ISO. M mode to control shutter speed and DOF requires Auto ISO to get exposure right. It went to ISO 2500 here. And the picture is slightly cropped. The S1 is acceptable, I doubt the S1R would have been.

That would depend upon what you deem acceptable.  I've recorded images with the S1R at ISO 6400 that I've felt were acceptable.

Despite the moans and groans of a few, I have not found noise to be as big a problem with the S1R as others.

I have yet to perform a comparative, but I have done some low light, high ISO imaging with my Sony a7rIII and have encountered noise that on some images was objectionable.  The interesting thing about the Panasonic's "noise," is that it is, to my eyes,  much more filmic than Sony's and less objectionable.  But, at the end of the day, noise may be a component of sensor pixel density, and if that's true (I am not a sensor expert), and given the tradeoff, I would opt for the greater detail acquired by the more pixel dense sensor than less noise with lower MP's.

That said, having used a Micro 4/3 Olympus Pen F with 20MP, I can truthfully say that it produces a lot of noise.  So are pixel density, sensor size and processor the perpetrators of noise, or is it much more complicated than that?

I found this Camerlabs NOISE comparison between the S1 and S1R.  To my eyes and with my computer screen, I do not see that much of a difference between the two.  You may have already seen this review, but here is the link:
