I guess that trade-in is calculated on the net price, and VAT is added after that.
Jeff S Posted February 23, 2020 Share #44 Posted February 23, 2020 Still have no idea how these prices would translate to the US market, let alone considering the tariff issue. Best to wait for the official plan. Jeff

I guess that trade-in is calculated on the net price, and VAT is added after that. I presume that you are referring to $15,500 Euros , which would make the retail USD price around $17000. So, the USD trade-in credit for the S007 will be in the range $4500 USD, so "old 007" + $13000 new dollars to buy S3. (Does not seem like a very generous trade value?). Can someone please explain what is meant by "Trade Up Support Net" versus "Trade Up Price Net"? Thank you. Welcome, dear visitor! Stuart Richardson Posted February 23, 2020 Share #46 Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) I think they mean trade up for their own cameras, and trade in for other manufacturers' MF cameras over 40mp. The support net means how much they give you for the camera, and the price net means how much you pay before VAT if you trade in such a camera. So if you give them an S2, you can pay 13,500 plus VAT. If you are a pro or have a company to buy the camera, then you can reclaim the VAT. So in this case pros would pay 13,500 euros plus they VAT of the country. But as they go out and do business charging clients, they charge out VAT...they can subtract the VAT they payed for the camera from the amount they charge out for their services. So...Icelandic VAT is 24%, so I would have to pay 16,740 euros for the camera, but once I charged 13500 euros worth of work, it would equalize. It can be a bit more complicated if you buy it from another country (for example, if you are buying from one EU country when you are in the EU, or from a country outside the EU), but that is generally how it works. xiaubauu2009 Posted February 24, 2020 Share #48 Posted February 24, 2020 they actually offer pretty good second hand price trade in for other manufacturer. A second hand X1D is now about 2000somethings, so is a GFX50s or 50r... but the trade in price for a S007... it:s kind of low.
Sarnian Posted February 27, 2020 Share #49 Posted February 27, 2020 What will Leica do with the traded in S’s? Original S2/S2-P’s and 006’s will probably have some degree of sensor corrosion...

davidmknoble Posted March 2, 2020 Share #52 Posted March 2, 2020 It will be interesting to see what the immediate demand is for an S3. I have been investing in the S lenses, both for the S007 and the SL(1). I believe in a year or two we might see another trade in allowance and potentially lower prices = if history repeats itself. That is how I acquired the S007, trade up from an S2P. I don't need the extra megapixels or ISO now because I mostly use the S007 for tripod landscape work. I'll bet the S3 has stellar imaging though, if it is any increase like the Monochrom 246 to the M10M.
albertknappmd Posted March 5, 2020 Share #53 Posted March 5, 2020 David The 007 on a tripod is ideal for landscape but the S3 end up being superior given the additional pixels both in DR and resolution. I am certainly hoping for that. Furthermore, if the S3 can produce great files at say ISO 800 or 1600, you may be able to say adios to your tripod... at least when not requiring long exposures!!! davidmknoble Posted March 5, 2020 Share #57 Posted March 5, 2020 (edited) @albertknappmd this was from Iceland, 3 horizontal S007 shots, simple rotation on the tripod - I haven't done much so I don't have rails. (downloaded from LR Mobile, not full res). I see your point on the S3, maybe lighten the load for many landscape shots, except for the long timed exposures of water, etc... LeicaR10 Posted March 6, 2020 Share #60 Posted March 6, 2020 Albertknappmd, Your landscape photograph at post #53 is superb. The composition, light, color, depth and texture all come together to create IMO a photograph that makes one; Stop, Look and Think about that moment in time and beauty of nature. BTW, the S007 helps create amazing photographs. The S3 will be capable even more so...just waiting with the old black AMEX card and call from the dealer. Keep creating! r/ Mark
