I only just found this fantastic thread buried in a section I rarely visit.

Some truly amazing shots here. Very well done to all contributors.

I owned an M8 for a couple of years and loved it. Un/fortunately it was stolen and after much thought I decided to get an M9 with the insurance money. I worked out which lenses I could afford with each body, and tried to factor in a one-stop ISO performance in vavour of the M9; the M9 system came out as being preferred overall for the lens categories I wanted, but what really made up my mind was future-proofing my lens selection against future changes in sensor size - I wanted to buy a lens kit I could learn and stick with for many years.

Anyway, having used both cameras extensively I can confirm that the M8 does seems to be better for monochrome - perhaps something about IR giving a little more shadow detail on portraits? The M9 is in my opinion more practical for colour work because of the ease of use without external IR filters. I also appreciate the ISO performance of the M9. I do really miss the M8's ability to do hand held infrared photography during otherwise harsh midday light, but the ability to use faster wide angle lenses and smaller normal lenses of decent aperture on the M9 more than makes up for it, and gives me a smaller three lens travel kit of excellent quality. If I were a one-camera-one-lens kind of guy, or if my lens collection had survived the robbery, I think I would have gone for another M8 instead.

For those interested in purchasing a minty M8, I've decided to put mine on the market in preparation for a major photographic expense. This camera has given me my favorite photos to date. http://www.BenitezRivera.com

The camera is listed in the Buyer/Seller section of this forum. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/market/listing/10393/Leica_M8.html

One way to celebrate the M8 (M8.2) is to post some of your favorite M8 photos here. Here are a few of mine...

Wilfredo
