I enjoyed your review, as usual. Thanks! In this case, as with the 75mm Noctilux, however, you helped me to see that such lenses would fill such tiny niches, I would be unlikely to buy. It is, of course, good to know that people capable of designing and building such near-perfect optical creatures are extant.

You did help to convince me to try, and choose to buy, a pre-owned Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, which was in the in the display case at the nearest Leica dealer, Houston Camera Exchange, in April 2018. A lack of truly compelling 50mm lenses, for other camera systems, had spurred a multi-year grail-quest search. Sample images, size, and ergonomic factors kept steering me toward the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH. I chose the Summilux, then, tried it on several pre-owned and demonstrator bodies, before buying a new M10, with the lens.

I look forward to your future review of the M10 Monochrom. 😀

There was a verbal ouch from me when I read about the "Klonk" and an immediate memory of my 90 APO hitting the floor during a fumbled lens change when I was on holiday in Venice. My lens bears similar scars, dent to the hood and front filter ring, but as I only narrowly stopped it rolling into the canal, I count my blessings.  It will have to be repaired one day but I use it frequently and as it seems to be only it's looks affected it's fine for now.

So, from your story does it mean that the hood of the new 90 Summilux is also similarly stupid in that it doesn't lock into place, as the 50 lux Asph hood does?   Can someone explain why?

Good read and beautiful images, thank you.

Thanks, as always a very interesting read accompanied by inspiring photos.  Will have to stick to my 2.8 though! :)

On dropping your camera and the new 90..... 'I experienced the obligatory flashback of my life but then realized that both the lens and I were still alive.'   Ouch, I get that!!
