Hi guys,

According to the Leica Wiki (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/50mm_f/1.4_Summilux-M_III) there's a limited screw mount version of the 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M III but the links don't work any longer. I can't find any other info on the web but I hope there's somebody who can tell me why, when en how much they produced.

Cheers

I have the 35 mm and the 50 mm Summicrons from this series. Wondering how difficult it is to focus a 50 mm lens at 1.4 on a IIIg.

I've had no problem with focussing that particular lens (11621) with any of the Barnack cameras - sometimes you have to pay attention as to which adapter you use on a M mount camera but generally focussing is no problem - most of the 50mm shots that I post on the forum are taken with a 11621 Summilux lens and various cameras.  It's a brass bodied lens, so quite heavy on a Barnack but loves most camera types, especially the M

I have both of the 50mm 1999 special edition Leica LTM lenses, the Summicron V and the Summilux III e46 special edition. They are both superb lenses and by some margin, the best examples of both of these lenses I have owned. The 50 Summilux III is my go to 50mm lens for both film and digital and I much prefer its rendition on digital, to the 50 Summilux IV ASPH, I used to own. I would however say that it is at about or fractionally beyond its resolution limitations with my 41MP Leica M10-R. Given the age of the basic design, this should be no surprise. I would really like to get hold of a copy of the Leica tech specs brochure for the 50 Summilux III, showing the MTF graphs.

That's an interesting comment - the 1999 Summilux LTM  is also my go to lens and I also have the suspicion that it is an out-performer.

I've suspected that in part that this is due to the enhanced quality control that revolves around some special editions, so the lens is tighter to specification but I also prefer the rendering and the steady progressive change in contrast, to what I sometimes call the 'jagged' style of certain aspheric lenses.
