johnbuckley Posted January 9, 2020 Share #21 Posted January 9, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Jeff - Four years and eight months since the Monochrom 246 was released. Fully expected one would have been released last May, given the Monochrom-last M release schedule + months between MM1 and 246. I am perfectly willing to cop to GAS on some things, but not on this one, as the Monochrom is my favorite camera of all times. And yes, it seems like just yesterday that I was lusting for the SL2, and it was, but like the wait for the M-10 Monochrom that was function specific -- in this case, hoping it would be released before going out West over Christmas, given its applicability for landscape photography. Do I protest too much? I do. I don't care. Just get the M10 Monochrom out the door, please. P.S. Interestingly, I don't feel any GAS when it comes to the M11. Of course I will want one, when it comes out. But with a 47MP SL2 and, if true, a 41MP M10 Monochrom, certain needs having been met, the M10 is a pretty perfect camera, and I don't require the MP bump that will likely be its key new attribute.

Not being aggressive, just hoping the answer is yes. Yes. You never know of course as things change but I'm fairly confident that my information is on the money. I've posted similarly for other launches correctly (M10). M10Alpine seems to have similar info to what I have. His timing and pricing quote is similar to what I am expecting. Guest Posted January 10, 2020 Share #28 Posted January 10, 2020 Of course this would be tempting if it proves to be true, even owning the admirable MM1 and having vowed at the altar of Leica ownership never to divorce it...........but then at €8000 plus I do have a roof that needs re-tiling here so maybe I should prioritise my 2020 spending.................However if the M10M proves to be weatherproofed then the roof work could slip some and the buckets can stay in the grenier a while longer. horosu Posted January 10, 2020 Share #29 Posted January 10, 2020 (edited) What interests me are not resolution and high-iso performance- I know these are going to be fantastic- but rather the dyamic range, the burnt highlights issue that every Monochrom variants has had so far and, last but not least, the wake-up time. It would be the first time that a Monochrom is presented with a brand new sensor. That could mean Leica might have tweaked it specifically for a monochrom camera. johnbuckley Posted January 10, 2020 Share #30 Posted January 10, 2020 Good points. And also, if it is in fact a 41mp sensor, the first time a Monochrom has essentially been a preview of the next M, as opposed to a specialized repurposing of the last one.

The MM1 renders beautifully when I do my job. Just like when I shot with color slide film. Jeff
Manicouagan1 Posted January 10, 2020 Share #32 Posted January 10, 2020 An ideal monochrome camera would restore the raw histogram of the first Leica Monochrom rather than using the 8 bit files that seem to form the basis for the histrograms of virtually all other digital cameras. Even better would be if the new metering sensor and associated reflecting surface were a closer match to the spectral responose of the sensor. The latter improvement woud improve exposures when using color filters as I do. I'd love more pixels than in the M246, but I old and getting greedy.

Ken Abrahams Posted January 11, 2020 Share #35 Posted January 11, 2020 To be honest, as a Proficient and regular weekend shooter I have still yet to achieve all of the images I would like to make with the M Monochrom. That’s seven years “Honeymoon” phase Of course its excessive consumerism, but if one don't own many things, have few other hobbies and find pleasure in using Leicas, I think it's a positive unnecessary thing to spend time and money on. Rational? no - warranted ? no. Yet still explainable. I don't know, my hesitation is the file size from 41 mp. As for the sensor its like many things, a matter of taste. I have a few Leica film cameras so the reason I opted to pull the trigger on this is to get different results from Tri-X. I might regret it and want the firs monochrome, who knows. a.noctilux Posted January 11, 2020 Share #38 Posted January 11, 2020 😇 time to sell some gears for cash ( 8 k€ can be reached more or less easily in one week ). That GAS before released M is something new for me (never had that kind of feeling before). Maybe because of Monochrom virus that bited me from the first one (MM1 the best performer), then second (M246 best user friendly), and it's time for the third (best ... ?). I don't know which one will stay 😏 after using the three, side by side for a while. Suspense is fun.

I think some Leica stores will have 1-2 at launch. Edited January 11, 2020 by dkmoore
