Setuporg, Β Good question. Β I usually power down my gear when hiking or walking especially long distance. Β Even for short distance, I have never heard any noise from the camera and lenses are nearly silent when used. Β Merry Christmas! Β r/ Mark

Never!Β  I use the Ms with 28 and 24 mm focal lengths.Β  Example, shot in a hurry (tired guests, tight space, M10-D was at hand with 28mm):

I just noticed the noise actually came from my 50 cron APO. As I turn off prefocus, no noise is present anymore which is somewhat odd, I don’t know exactly how prefocus works but as I turn it off all noise went away.

The SL2 uses Panasonic’s DFD AF system. Β See in the video below starting at 1:16 for an explanation on how a camera with DFD AF moves the motor of a lens to achieve accurate focus. Β With PreΒ Focus set to On, the SL2 will scan a scene continuously in order toΒ predetermineΒ a likely focus pointΒ andΒ move the AF motor constantly as the scene changes. Β This speeds up the process of acquiring focus considerably when a shot is actually taken, particularly withΒ the 50 Summicron-SL and the 50 Summilux-SL,Β IMO, with the Super-VEΒ 16-35 probably as well (haven’t tested it but noticed how fast the AF works with this lens)Β andΒ makes the SL2 feelΒ really snappy. Β I love it.
