Ricoh GR3 went with UBS-C cable to charge and no charger they did however give a paper manual.
jaapv Posted December 1, 2019 Share #23 Â Posted December 1, 2019 Ah, if a camera can charge over USB that is understandable.

Yes, as ‘fixedwheel’ noted.  But he’s never done one before, and liked the camera enough to buy it, usually sticking to lower priced gear. Joe Colson Posted December 1, 2019 Share #26  Posted December 1, 2019 Aging eyes. I had the PDF printed on 8½x11", spiral bound, at the local Staples office center. For me, much easier to read and reference than from a screen. I don't even have the camera yet. Joe

Once there are inner boxes with groovy pull out drawers and the rest. The package for my SL2 was about half the size of one for my SL I got three years back. I got it out to handover when I traded the SL.  That was the first thing I noticed when mine arrived...I wondered if the dealer sent me a demo, as the packaging was cheap compared to all previous Leica's. But after about :04 seconds I forgot about this detail, as the box was relegated to the top shelf of a dark closet not to be seen again for another 3-4 years  BTW- The pdf manual is searchable
jrp Posted December 1, 2019 Share #29  Posted December 1, 2019 It would be helpful to have some brief help text included in the camera, as other brands do.  Having said that, they tend to be minimalistic, and so worse than useless (the help associated with XY mode will say "Turns on XY mode" which is not much help if you don't know what XY mode is and why you might want to use it.  The original Apple approach of making things discoverable and choosing good defaults for those that don't want to fiddle is not really appropriate for camera where the whole point of choosing them is to give more control. That said, like most others in the thread, I use the manual for reference, and so don't need a multi-language book, but do need an electronic copy.  Unfortunately, the PDF seems to be designed for printing and so not laid out , or marked up, for optimal e-reading, which seems to be an elementary mistake.

earleygallery Posted December 1, 2019 Share #34 Â Posted December 1, 2019 (edited) When Leica sold cameras with printed manuals nobody read them anyway, hence all the 'dumb' questions on here from new owners wanting to know how to switch it on etc. Now that Leica don't include printed manuals, everyone moans about not having something they weren't going to read anyway! There is nowhere else in the 220 pages where you can find a proper indexation. So here the goal is just replacing paper by pdf, while xml built soft documentation can bring you much more providing you use a decent reader such as 'goodReader' on tablets.. It is not a big deal to produce indexed soft documentation out of XML, and maybe Leica will come to it one day. You might then find a great deal of difference with paper documentation. To come back to airplanes manuals, we started the full paperless experiments back in 2006 and after 10+ years nobody would seriously regret "good old times with paper doc". Of course this gives more room and paper to art and literature printing 😎  Edit: I've just checked again, the cross references indicating a page number (e.g "see page xxx") are functional at least in the SL2 doc. So it's a first step to indexation! Exactly. I spent a little time converting a French/European English operating manual in this form to a local specification.standard. I can see why the PDF format fits with what Leica wants. Printability  in a consistent format across platforms in a very well recognised file format accessible for free. They could just harness more of the PDF capability  with more comprehensive indexing. Some resources to update the document promptly concurrent with a firmware functional change would be ideal. Those changes degrade the accuracy of printed manuals obviously.
ru2far2c Posted December 1, 2019 Share #36  Posted December 1, 2019 I am happy with a PDF manual downloaded to my phone or iPad. Just for the reason it is searchable. It has come in handy a few times. So has asking question the manual is not clear on too.
thighslapper Posted December 1, 2019 Share #37  Posted December 1, 2019 If you need a manual to use the SL2 then Leica have done something wrong...... Ok, that's a bit unfair as I have had an SL and a CL, but once you work out the basic controls most of it is pretty obvious from the menus. However, the SL2 really couldn't me much simpler and intuitive after half an hour of pressing buttons. I've downloaded the PDF version but have yet to look at it ....... unlike the 500 page S1R manual which I spent the first few week constantly rummaging in to find out what setting I had inadvertently changed to cause the infuriatingly odd behaviour of the camera. Once I'd got it set to my requirements the manual has gone with the box to the loft.
SonomaBear Posted December 2, 2019 Share #38 Â Posted December 2, 2019 Instead of needing updated manuals (which I still wish existed) we rely on each other in this forum to explain the changes in each firmware release. Â With the Q, I've used the forum for every revision and tried to contribute when I discovered another hidden "Easter Egg"... Just bought the SL and downloaded the manual which is obsolete but still helpful. Â DSL 3.6 is WAY different than 1.0 and exciting to discover new things. I still wish that Leica updated their manuals in PDF format...
